Tubbs gone?

Postby mr. pony » Wed Apr 05, 2006 9:10 pm

Dallasnews.com just posted a story(4/5, 8:30 pm) that said Tubbs may be on the way out.

I'm sorry, but I can't help but wonder how many Big Macs (and other things) were purchased for players in Pasadena the week of the Rose Bowl.

Give me a break.

You do not fire this man for minor rule violations. Nor do you have Copeland making this decision.

There has to be more to the story than that.

we'll see. No hint of them yet. Calvin keeps talking about cups of detergent and a hamburger. Practice time? Gimme a break, impossible to prove and such a minor thing its not even funny.

We are talking about very minor infractions: aburger, a cup of detergent, yet "NCAA officials have talked to numerous prospects who were recruited by SMU." I don't think any recruit would be offered a cup of detergent. So what are we talking about?

Something tells me Watkins source's initials are J.T.

And yeah, they've undercut Tubbs pretty good. Never a big fan of Tubbs, but this could be handled better. This better not linger much longer, however it turns out.

If Tubbs is getting fired for any of these reasons, or if Copeland is involved in the decision, then SMU has fallen to a new low. I would be more concerned if Tubbs refused to loan a cup of detergent, or wasn't holding extra practice or making a few extra phone calls. This is just pathetic.

Shouldn't Orsini be the one to make the call?

How can he even attempt to perform his job and recruit after all this crap? He's as good as gone, I'd say.

Orsini will make the final call on any dismissal, I am sure. How he would run a job search from UCF is beyond me. He would have to start early. Have to.

This sounds like a witch hunt. I don't know what the reasoning is, but this is comical. A cup of detergent? A burger? An extra hour of practice? Even if he made more calls than is allowed, that's something that traditionally results in a public "don't do it again" speech, followed by a "sorry -- I made a mistake" apology, and then it's over and done with. There has to be something going on that we just don't know about.

Orsini can't make this call. He doesn't work for the university yet. But damn, it sounds like someone is out to get Coach Tubbs. Regardless of what we all think of the job he has done, this reeks.

Funny timing after our discussion today.

What kind of garbage article is that. Looks like they are looking for excuses to get him out of here. Only at SMU would this sh*t happen.

1. It sure ain't Copeland's call. Anybody really think Copeland can do anything now without the rubber stamp of Turner? And anyone really think the rubberstamp of Turner doesn't involve running big decisions that will cost the athletic department hundreds of thousands of dollars by Orsini? Because that is what a buyout will cost.

2. Relax. There have been screwier coaching disasters for sure. This isn't even in the top 25, but it doesn't help.

well, this is crazy and the timing couldn't be worse. We are between AD's and the recruiting period is on for our other spots. I'd feel much better if Orsini was already in place.

seem like the writing is on the wall - so, how does Orsini find a replacement or do we wait until June when most of the coaching hires have already been made?
