For Us Outsiders, who is the Dallas Good Ol' Boy Candidate?

Postby McClown27 » Thu Apr 06, 2006 10:05 am

At this point, normally there are ten posts up about Charlie Waters. I doubt he will seriously be entertained for this job. So, who is the local candidate everyone wants?

I just want to get this little argument out of the way, so we can than think about real candidates

Brad Davis?
Jon Koncak?
Derek Harper?

quit enjoying this so much, it doesnt matter. The next guy will fail as sure as the sun will set tonight. First of all we wont get anybody worth a damn. Second of all, many area hs coaches will freeze them out after this debacle. Third, our facilities are pathetic and we fire coaches after two years on the job.

oh gawd. I knew that was coming. The criteria around here is that the players love you. Frashilla had an all out mutiny at New Mexico and couldnt even succeed with all that support and 16,000 in the stands every night. He would be a disaster here. Please tell me we are not replacing tubbs after two years with a talking head from Espn.

I think SMU is a pretty desirable job. It is in a power conference that gets teams into the tournament, and it is in a top ten market with alumni who are really eager to build facilities when success has been achieved.

Excuse me? It's a decent conference, I suppose, but let's not overstate things, huh?

Jeez, we might as well send basketball the way of mens track and renovate for Moody Natatorium.

We should be happy that our new A.D. is geared towards success--and not the mediocrity of Dement/Tubbs. Who knows, maybe we can even get some facility upgrades and people coming to the games.

Wow Hoop, it looks like you have finally come around to the dark side! We can get someone in here to succeed and with the administration behind us they will. If we have more of the same, than you are right it will be doomed to failure.

Hoop, do they allow you to drink at work???

1. Granted Tubbs only had 2 years. That is not enough to fully evaluate a person- you need more time. But in those 2 years Tubbs was a failure. Do you think the new coach will be even MORE of a failure?

2. We won't get anyone worth a damn? Newsflash, our hiring of Tubbs was the equivilant of the 2am booty call. You struck out at the bar with all the hott chics you actually wanted so you call the one you had in the bag since way back when thats nothing all that special. IE a backup choice that is nothing to brag about. So do you think our new hire could possibly be WORSE than Tubbs, an also ran assistant at OU?

3. DISD coaches will freeze us out? I didn't see a bunch of stud recruits in Dallas lined up waiting to sign with SMU while Tubbs was here. To me that means coaches aren't that influential (in this day and age they are less influential than ever), which means it would not matter much what they said about SMU. Or the DISD coaches never gave a [deleted] about Tubbs in the first place. Either way I see our worst case scenario like this: Getting no top DISD recruits with Tubbs or getting no top DISD recruits with new Coach ______. (And I don't want to hear about Tubbs' recruiting back when he was an assistant at SMU. While he was the head coach, he did nothing- period.)

Basically I do not see how our situation could possible more terrible than it already is. I just cannot imagine anything worse than our current status quo, which granted, does suck.

I will admit to being to being probably the second biggest supporter of Tubbs behind HF but I have to admit that I am not suprised or really even upset about this.

Sure, it sucks he only got 2 years to produce and that could weigh into the mind of a prospective coach, but I don't see it as a big deal.

I think without the investigation, Tubbs may have been able to turn things around, but after two miserable seasons and a new AD coming in, the timing is right. In my mind, all of this is just smoke and mirrors to justify the fact that Orsini wanted a new BB coach. He wants to make his own hire.

One thing to consider, this is a VERY bad time to fire the coach, right before signing day, perhaps it is possible that SMU has already struck a deal with someone to take his place? Maybe we will be floored with a name that no one expected and we can all get excited about? Probably not, but maybe :P .

Good luck to Coach Tubbs, I hope this piddly investigation crap doesn't hinder him from getting another coaching job. He was a class act and really loved SMU, it just didn't work out.

Too bad Anderson left UAB, I just saw a newsflash that Mike Davis took the UAB job, so he is out of consideration.
