STATEMENT FROM SMU
April 6, 2006
"SMU has terminated Jimmy Tubbs as head men's basketball coach, effective immediately. In February, SMU self-reported to the NCAA alleged violations in the men's program and initiated an investigation in cooperation with the NCAA and an independent firm. SMU's investigation to date has revealed NCAA violations in a number of areas in the program. The investigation continues. The few incidents described in recent media reports are not the sum of the alleged violations in the program. Those incidents would not, in themselves, warrant significant action on the part of the University. SMU holds its coaches accountable for high standards of compliance with NCAA rules and University procedures in all areas of their programs."
-- Jim Copeland, Director of Athletics

Therein lies the key to unlocking what the hell happened.

Sounds like a few people owe Max and Matt Williams an enormous apology.
Glad he did what he and stopped this before it became a huge issue. If it hasn't already.....

I will be happy to apologize to Gramps if these "other" alleged violations are ever brought to light and amount to more than Burgergate.

Coming from someone who's made some pretty absurd allegations for the past 48 hours.
Trust you who has bad sources or trust Copeland who's in the middle of the investigation? Hmmmm.

I'm sorry. Sorry that either of them ever set foot on the Hilltop.

Since when has Copeland ever given us a reason to trust him?

Do some of you really think that they would release a statement saying we've committed violations "in a number of areas of the program"?
Copeland jokes aside, of course not. No school would ever report that unless they had to.

What school in their right mind would release the Burgergate allegations to the paper making themselves look like fools, instead of the "serious" ones?
after the investigation?

I can't wait once the Tubbs investigation is finally over so we can know the real reason why J.T. was fired.

One more question, why would a school pay a coach the TWO remaining years salary after he commited major violations?
