Thank you for reporting that JT bought a couple of hamburgers for a couple of players - way to go

Why don't you cehck out SMU's statement on the issue. The burgers did not warrant (as everyone knew) Tubbs getting canned. Tubbs was eveidently breaking multiple rules that were mch more serious.

I can't believe so many are shifting the blame from the guilty party (Tubbs) onto the party that did the right thing (Williams).

Why don't you read it again? What did you expect Copeland to say? Nobody is trying to shift the blame - they all look bad - JT, Copeland, Max, etc. - just another screw up by our athletic dept.

The article said he wasn't fired over the violations reported by the media, but over more serious stuff that was uncovered. That's all you need to know.

I am curious if any of the Oklahoma violations have come to light and a pattern has been developed with what was going on with us. If so, it needed to be stopped quickly. This is just speculation on my part.

i'd like to know the whole thing myself. What we do now know is it was much more than the cheeseburgers. So your original post thanking Max Williams for turning us in for the cheeseburgers is irrelevent. that wasn't what got us/Tubbs in this mess.

Actually, I think we need to know what the "more serious stuff" was all about. Just having what's been released to the media out there really makes SMU look ridiculously stupid in terms of how they handled everything. So tell us what happened so that we have a better idea of what led to this series of events. After all, just because someone tells us something, doesn't mean it's true. We all know how that bit about weapons of mass destruction turned out.

Max Williams should be banned as a booster from any further contact with the university. After all he not only turned Tubbs in for violations, he admitted he gave the money for the hamburgers, which must also be a violation. Banish him, a la Sherwood Blount.

Boy, it does make one stop and think about the old pattern theory. The old carrry over from the Oklahoma stuff. You think Indiana is sweating their decision to hire Simpson. Something tells me they aren't giving it a second thought. Sampson was their man. Tthey went out and got him. They are not worrying about some NCAA investigation carying over to them.

You would think that if anyone would be concerned it would be Indiana. They hired the head coach from the time period all the infractions were supposedly taking place for Pete's sake. You think they give a rat's [deleted]?

Only at SMU. It does get tiresome doesn't it?

I'm sure it all will come out. It always does. they're not done with the investigation yet. But whatever they've found up to now was enough to move immediately.

If what was going on at SMU is similar to what was happening at OU with the excessive phone calls, then that puts Sampson and OU in an even worse light.

The investigation at Fresno State helped shed light to what was going on at OU. Ray Lopes, the Fresno HC got nailed for making many more phone calls to recruits than were allowed under NCAA rules. That was then traced back to OU to the time period where he was Sampson's top assistant.

Sampson seemed to act like he didn't know it was against the rules and blamed his compliance department and Lopes. But once Lopes left for Fresno and was replaced by Tubbs, if it can be proven that Tubbs started doing the same thing Lopes was, Sampson is probably going to get nailed as the guy behind the whole thing.

So guys, should we have done nothing? If you say we shouldn't have, it'll at least clear up where you're coming from.

Sampson won't get nailed, and neither will OU or Indiana, you forget that Miles Brand is the head of the NCAA, and I seriously doubt he is going to hit is former employer, or a school that will make his former employer look bad.

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?
