I think this quote best sums up the state of the SMU Basketball Program...The quote is in the Dallas Morning News and it is said by the South Oak Cliff coach James Mays II:

"Dallas is probably the hot spot in the U.S. in basketball talent," Mays said, "and you've got a college right here that can get no one."

Other quotes that I think are of interest on this issue:

"It's going to set them back 10 years or more with the black community," Johnson said. "I don't feel he got a fair shake. That's not sitting well with young coaches."

"I'm a little hurt," center Bamba Fall said after the meeting.

Fall, who set an SMU record for blocks as a freshman last season, said he's thinking of transferring.

That one makes me nervous. We need to get a coach in soon that can reassure Fall.

The most important of all and the reason that I am okay with the Tubbs firing:

"What he really needed was to win," Lincoln coach Leonard Bishop said. "Dallas kids want to win."

Could he have turned it around, yes, but bottom line is we need a winner. I don't care if you are a good recruiter if you can't bring in recruits because you don't win.
