I am sick and tired of being held hostage by DISD coaches who only want a black coach at SMU. Who cares about color, the bottom line is WINS and LOSSES, and JT wasn't getting it done. What big name dallas kids have come to SMU since JT took over and the DISD coaches supported us?? NONE! So what the f--- do I care whether they hate us for firing JT.
The bottom line here is that Orsini wants someone new, probably someone he already has contacted, and this is a convenient way of getting Tubbs out. I would venture a guess that he was going to fire JT all along. I just hope it's a big name or an asst. from a big name program so that people will say, "Wow, great hire!"

Yes, now we are going to be "set back 10 years."
What? Now we are going to get less than zero recruits??

This is a typical, ignorant SMU post. I would respond to what you’ve just written, but I wouldn't know where to begin.

what's ignorant, that skin color shouldn't matter?? i don't care if our new coach is green as long as he gets wins. it's the racist attitude of DISD coaches that i was talking about, and how we will be "set back in the black community for 10 years". give me a break...

As long as you're committed to recruiting outside of Dallas, I guess it doesn't matter what DISD coaches think. But when the great Dallas players all go elsewhere after our new coach is hired, don't complain that they're going elsewhere.

I guess it has escaped you that MOST OF THE TOP PLAYERS COMING OUT OF DISD ARE BLACK. But that's okay, at least we landed Matt Williams, the great white hope. And yes, I have turned on him, thanks to gramps.

I never got the sense that the DISD coaches' issue with SMU was about a black coach, it was about having Coach Tubbs himself. I don't think that if he was replaced with Mike Anderson or Mike Davis or Mike Jarvis, etc., that the relationship with DISD would be repaired right away just because of the new coach's skin color. Whoever does get the job next has a monumental task in front of him in terms of rebuilding relationships and trust with local coaches.

What?? Are 85% of the head bball coaches at the "
black" high schools a bunch of guys who have been around for 25 years, play golf and fish with JT, and are his kids God fathers?? No local coaches are 2, 3, 5 years into the job, without some big longtime loyalty to JT?? I think this JT / black Dallas kid thing is over blown....

If the issue is a black coach then why are the DISD coaches quoted as saying that the issues are:
- commitment or appearance of it
- facilities
- winning
If these are the real issues with Dallas HS recruits coming to SMU then it is not about a black coach. All the DISD coaches know they did not deliver one player on their pledges. Maybe they are just making excuses, but if these are the real isses with recruiting then let us focus where the DISD coaches are saying we should be focusing.

Please note that in the quotes from the local HS coaches it did say that if there were violations more substantial than the burgers and detergent, it would be a different story in the mind of these coaches. (paraphrased)
That is why I am certain that either:
1. There was nothing more than the burgers and detergent
or
2. we will hear the whole story in depth when the time is right.
