A bet to anyone who would like to take it

For everyone on the board that is in distress over our firing of Tubbs and how far back it will set our program I am willing to make a bet to the contrary. To anyone that would like to accept, I bet a beer after our last home game of the year that we will finish NO WORSE in conference next season than we did this season (4-10). If 100 people take me up on this I will gladly buy each and every one of you a beer if we finish worse than that but if I win a fully expect a beer from each one of you :D . (Although if there are 100 I might want to spread that out over a pretty good length of time!)

I am confident that even after losing our best player to graduation and bringing in a new coach we cannot possibly be worse than we were under Tubbs last season. This bet is my way of putting my beer where my mouth is. Any takers?

would prove nothing. Maybe Bamba and Dez will naturally develop like they should and we get better. That wont prove that Tubbs couldnt coach. On the contrary it will indicate Tubbs brought in good players with potential.

we could easily be better next year even without hopkins because guys will mature and it will force more guys step up and stop waiting for hopkins to take over, the team could well improve.

But according to the "sky is falling" contigent on the board our best players might transfer, we won't get a good candidate to come to SMU, the implications of recruiting will be so terrible that it will set the program back years.

It will prove something. Hoop, I believe YOU could coach that roster to a 4-10 CUSA record with BHop on the team. The fact that Tubbs could do no better is his fault and noone elses.

I would be willing to make a bet regarding our RPI or our overall record but I haven't seen the upcoming seasons scheduled. If it is littered with the miserable non conference games we had this season then I see our overall record and RPI more than likely on the rise too.

Looks like the sky wasn't falling afterall. My bet still stands and I will raise the bar saying MD will get us at least 3 more conference wins next year in spite of the loss of Hop and potential transfers.

Any takers now?

there is nothing worse than a [deleted] who thinks his opinion is more important just because he says. You wanna bet! You wanna bet! Actually I think SMU's basketball program is close to collapsing completely if we don't keep Fall and Morris-and then you would look like a total idiot. You wanna bet! You wanna bet?

I have been criticized by Stallion. Oh whatever will I do? This really stings coming from someone who presents his own opinions so humbly in the classy manner that you always do. Really makes me feel like a jerk.

Well put, I thought it was really ironic that Stallion would try to put someone down for the way they stated their opinion.

Wager accepted. Now you can stop asking for takers in every thread you post in.

You may not have considered this, but most fans are reluctant to bet against their own team, and thats what you are asking them to do here. Thats part of why you didnt get any takers before. Personally, I dont mind risking a beer, so I wont be rooting against the Mustangs just to win a silly bet. And now you can stop carrying on about nobody being willing to take your bet. Happy now?

I want everyone rooting for SMU athletics. It was not directed at the common SMU fan. It was directed at the fans who proclaimed this would be the downfall of SMU hoops and that we would get a 95 yr old highschool coach and that whoever we got could do no better than Tubbs who was hosed in this whole deal. It seemed like they WANTED us to fall on our face bc of how upset they were over the Tubbs situation and how it was handled/came about. It was my way of saying to them that I think SMU will be just fine. Thats all. I hope next season we are all out having beers together celebrating SMU wins!

oh surprise.. stallion is acting like a 5th grade bully again.. you gotta love it when the biggest poster (i.e. person who wastes way too much time) is cussing at a dedicated ponyfan.. not too mention "having a glass half empty" outlook on our basketball team..

we just hired a name bigger than any other name at smu since the slush fund days.. yes doherty is a bigger name than bennett, last i checked he was once the Head Coach at UNC...

The great thing about sports is that you don't have to a realist all the time(yes bamba or morris could leave).. especially as a SMU fan.. Are we goin to win every game? HELL NO, but as a lifetime fan I go into every game believing we will win or will have a chance to win when the clock is nearing 00:00..

I hope all the people on this board feel the same as i do, if you don't your opinions are welcome, but don't be cussing a loyal fan and try to bring other fans down to your pessimistic level..

Sort of like Richard Pryor (Stallion) critizing another man for being vulgar once or twice. Great irony.

You should ALWAYS bet against your team - if they lose, you win money. If they win, you are still happy. Win-win situation.
