How much money does tennis bring the university? Now how much money could a top notch bball recruiting class bring to the athletic program?
SMU is pretty landlocked, so lets get rid of those tennis courts that probably cost more money to upkeep than the smu tennis team brings in and build a very nice complex right next to the arena.. we will not be able to compete and get the big recruits if we don't have a nice complex for the bball players to call theirs..

I don't want to see the tennis teams removed, but there are other courts (across Dublin, for instance). And if those aren't suitable for tournaments/matches, the tennis teams could do like the golf teams and play their tournaments at local clubs.
Not a bad idea, tmustangp.

Why? There's plenty of room east of moody on the site of the Athletic Annex (the temporary weight room facility they built while Ownby was knocked down before Ford was built)

That building holds/held the student weight room and a large portion of the ME labs and classes. The gym now has a new home, and the Embry building is about to be finished for the MEs, so it sounds like there is nothing to do with that land now.

Don't like the casualness, when talking about the Non-revenue sports. "How much money they bring in" is a horrible test. I have no interest in a university that only cares about FB and BB.
I am not opposed to relocating tennis, per se, but using the filter of money is a joke. The role of athletics and the importance of student-athletes in all sports, men and women and revenue and non-revenue, is crucial for SMU to be a Division 1 leader in education and sports.
A BB complex is a good idea, moving Tennis off campus simply to accommodate that goal is a bad one.

Good news for you, SMU doesn't care about FB or BB either.

I agree with WaterPony. As much as everyone likes to think that we should only support fball and bball, the other sports are essential to rounding out a successful athletic department and in recent years, they have brought us our only taste of success.
Discussing room for sports, I'd like to see SMU either build some new complex on the SMU apartments location (Binkley, east of Dublin) or an off-campus facility. Being landlocked, maybe SMU could look into building a nice complex in Plano or Richardson (relatively close to campus), complete with amazing natatorium, tennis courts, a volleyball gym, lockerrooms, etc. That way we could free up land and build update facilities at the same time. Just a thought, I'm sure 10 of you will pick it apart.

I believe the library will be built on the site of the Univ Gardens apt complex (east of dublin, between binkley and potomac), but it may extend farther north towards SMU/Yale Blvd.

Plenty of room for both. The plans are already laid out from what they have said for a new bball facility.
Revenue is not the point - a program needs to be well rounded. The tennis teams have been pretty good (much better than any of the bball teams). Our tennis facilties are pretty bad too. Haggard needs updating very soon.

Let skip the library - he's a disgrace to our country.
