I realize those involved are way ahead of me on this, but I hope the school starts getting Coach Doherty's name and face out there IMMEDIATELY. If he signs his contract Monday night or Tuesday, I want to hear him on every sports radio show in town. I want to see his face on every TV station. There needs to be a billboard, or several. Have him introduced at a Mavericks playoff game -- hell, even a Stars game or Rangers game. Take out an ad in the DMN. He'll have meet-and-greets with the alums between now and then, but trot him out on the field at the first football game.

The DISD coaches might be hacked off about Coach Tubbs' removal, but Coach Doherty is a national name and needs to be all over the place (complete with that NATIONAL COACH OF THE YEAR award). If we'd hired some no-name coach from some Div. 3 school, the healing process would be a lot longer. Coach Doherty's name and national profile won't mend all fences overnight, but every effort should be made to splash this guy all over town.

I'm going to see the Rangers play the Baltimore Orioles in a couple of weeks -- I'd love to see Coach Doberty throw out the first pitch!
