What a liar

Postby dirtypony » Tue Apr 25, 2006 9:19 am

I loved the sentence in the DMN today about how SOC's Morgan gave SMU a verbal before Tubbs left. When did that ever happen?

do you know he didn't? He was visiting that week and signing day was days away. The reports I read were that he was at least about to commit. BTW this really could hurt SMU long term as Ronnie Morgan's little brother J'Misson (BoBo)is a Texas Top 10 as a Junior next year and goes about 6-11.

Oh, yeah, the brother act from a DISD school worked real well for us before.

We'll be fine.

I actually heard that Morgan committed about a month ago. Anyone else you want to falsely accuse of being a liar?

Well thanks for posting it a month ago.
Seems like if we got a kid over Michigan we would have been talking about it all the time.

would HAVE been great to snag. Where there was a legit chance at guys like this before, there is not much of one right now. We'll see if Doherty can do anything about that somehow, but lets call spades spades.

No kiddin'. I believe there might be a few teams that win big without DISD recruits. I think Matt Doherty can recruit some outstanding players and still avoid going in those DISD gyms where SMU is "not welcome". I can only imagine the SBC nightmare yesterday... the jammed phone lines ("all morning") of calls going to Goree Johnson (spare) from DISD basketball coaches saying their gyms are off-limits to SMU. That guy is a buffoon. Coaching changes happen... some fair, some unfair... I was ticked off when they let Norman Jett go... but I got over it.

Honestly we have no idea if we had a "legit" chance before, we have not had a disd kid since 2002. Yes I think the Disd coaches somewhat care, but I don't think the 17 year old kid cares, he just wants to win games and go to the NBA.

Something Doherty has done and HOPEFULLY will do again.

dawg,
the reason I didn't post it was because I wasn't sure how reliable my info was and I wanted to wait until it was reported......I'm sure he was waiting to see what happened with Coach Tubbs before going public with it. And at the time, I believe he had offers from Arkansas and few smaller schools. Michigan's interest is new to me.

some of you guys are just plain ignorant-spouting BS off the top of your head like you actually know what you are talking about. We ain't just talking about DISD-we are talking about the Metroplex-Now try to go find a successful program in this part of the country that hasn't made strong recruiting inroads into the Dallas Metroplex. I suggest you SHUT UP until you can answer that question. This is a serious problem for SMU that obviously flies over the head of many.

This is making the assumption that EVERYONE in the metroplex was enamored with Tubbs. Do you think some kid playing in Plano gives a flying [deleted] whether DISD coaches liked Tubbs alot? Kids want to win, they want a chance to develope their games and maybe make it to the league. I envision a lot of players in the metroplex seeing Doherty as a serious upgrade in those departments and one that proves SMU is for real with our basketball program.

Oklahoma University, good team, NCAA tourney flameouts recently, on their roster last season...1 DFW player.
Kansas, extremely good and young team...0 DFW players.
Closer to home UTEP...0 DFW players.
Its not all in DFW, despite what some people like to think.

Morgan who is closer to 6'5" than 6"7" told people that Michigan had offered him. Turns out they had expressed mild interest - nothing more. He's a good player at the high school level but has always played as a low post guy. That's why he didn't receive more interest this year. I wish we could sign his dad................

Being able to recruit south of the Trinity would be nice but calling a spade a spade as hoop said, it isn't going to happen - at least not in the forceable future. So, we have the rest of the USA to recruit and Doherty does know the heads of the successful summer teams so he focuses his efforts there. We have the draw of Big D, a beautiful campus with hot babes, and a recognizable name coaching here now. It's not like we are having to convince kids to come to backwater, USA.
