A few quotes:
SMU love
I just want to say thanks to Ms. Seed and Mr. Mosley for all the love.
SMU is a fun beat these days with all the firings and hirings.
New athletic director Steve Orsini told me that on Sunday morning when he was leaving for Dallas from Orlando, he wasn't sure if Matt Doherty was going to take the job.
After another discussion, Doherty accepted the position.
Orsini has made a splash hire.
Now, if they can get football going, things might really be going in the right direction.

But wait, there's more. Calvin also has an audio Q and A with Matt Doherty. Click on the SportsDay Speak link.

A Hilltop exclusive
Apparently our intrepid SMU beat writer Cal Watkins has the administration in the palm of his hands. One of my SMU moles called late Monday afternoon to share some interesting details from yesterday's basketball news conference that didn't show up in young Cal's 1C report this morning.
First of all, president Gerald Turner reportedly singled out Watkins for his exemplary "investigative reporting."
Quick background note: This is not something most college presidents do when announcing new basketball coaches.
Also, the new coach, former UNC player Matt Doherty, opened it up to questions by saying, "Calvin?"
I'm not certain of this, but by all indications, we haven't had Hilltop coverage like this since Cowlishaw was covering Methodist athletics in the late 1970s.
Tip of the cap to Watkins, who somehow broke all this news while belting out sidebars from the Mavs-Grizz game.
all my love,
m
