Coach Doherty will be on the Fox Sport SW Report Sunday night. He'll be on some time after 9 PM, but they undoubtedly will be talking NFL Draft first, so Coach Doherty is expected to hit the air around 9:20 or 9:25-ish.

What a weekend -- watching the Draft all weekend, and then getting to hear Coach Doherty.
I'm going to be useless at work Monday.

Be careful. With your screen name you have just opened up this thread for deletion due to political commentary.

Hmmmm .... I'm guessing that might be a different Dubbya.
And personally, I'm right there with you -- I'm looking at 10 hours on the couch today, and what, another 8 or 9 tomorrow (including the Coach Doherty interview)? It's hard work, but I'm taking one for the team.
I just feel sorry for the couch.

Doherty...

This is awesome. Some national press for the SMU, Doherty is gonna bring a lot of this to the campus. He deserves it too, SMU basketball will go to the NCAAs very soon. He is a great fit.

That is hardly national press. You might call that regional at best.

This is close to what was said tonight.
FSSW: Why did you take this job.
MD: It was a good fit for me. Dallas is an awesome city, good place to raise my children. SMU is attractive and is a place I would have considered as a player and student.
Steve Orsini has shown a committment. It has to be a committment from the top, Mustang Club, raising of money....
I have to sell my product - deliver a quality education and basketball experience. I don't see why we can't take it to a new level. It's going to be exciting.
FS: Chris Bosh, Darrell Arthur - you'd like to be able to keep these kids in the town.
MD: People have heard of and know of SMU from NYC to California.
FS: Quote from DMN: Athletic Director said he got calls that SMU is no longer welcome in our gyms. How will you combat that?
MD: I called Mr Johnson, I called Jimmy Tubbs the day I was hired. The world of business is not fair. The public doesn't understand everything -(something about not knowing everything involved).
I can understand it and I want to reach out to the community. I went to Duncanville tournament, and I want to build a trust there.
FSSW: Mid-majors can compete, look at George Mason.
MD: We are not a mid-major - we are not going to recruit "mid major" players. I tell people we aren't a mid major. We have a good conference with UAB and Memphis. Something like..."we are going to be a major player".
Coach Barnes recuited me to Davidson College. He was an assistant coach down there. I saw him this weekend at Duncanville High School. MD knows him well.
MD: I feel like I have the blueprint for a good program from work at ND, UNC, etc.
FS: What will the style be?
MD: It's a winning style. Ultimately we want to get the talent and personel and how the talent matches up. Build our talent and play up tempo eventually. I love the way Avery Johnson plays, open style, and a fun game.
Talk about a possible coaches show on FSN.

good synopsis, but I dont think the reference to a coach's show was serious. It was just that girl throwing out a quip. And any interview led by Ric Renner might as well be led by McClown. Poor Doherty probably thought he was going to a real interview tonight. Doherty does handle himself well though, very smooth.

Renner is one of the many reasons that Fox Sports sucks. He's an idiot.
Pretty good interview...

I like Doherty's enthusiasm and confidence. I think this SMU basketball program really is going to hit a new level with Doherty behind the reigns. Hopefully we can bring in some good talent this year to help accomodate next year's team. I know we will have a good recruiting class in 2007 with Doherty leading the charge, and I can't even imagine what is going to happen in 2008. Wow what a good choice by the SMU Athletic Department, he will not let SMU down.

Well, at least they have Dana Larson.
