I heard that OU has gotten into the mix and offered. Utah and SMU want him badly as well. Whoever gets him is getting a great guard, but more importantly, a great young man!!!

that would make sense for Doherty to know about him. Roberson is from Florida and still plays with an AAU team down there I think.

he's little, but quick and stats dont matter too much because he led Plano to the state championship and he was the star of much of their playoff run. He would be a great get for Doherty.

JOHN ROBERSON IS AMONG THE USA'S TOP TEN PG'S

PREVIEW: SOUTH FLORIDA HEAT
By Rick Staudt
March 31, 2006

The South Florida Heat program continues to grow in stature among the Nike family of travel teams. Mining the talent-rich areas of Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties, the Heat consistently bring together a collection of talented, skilled athletes. The 2006 edition will be no different.

"We won't be as big as we were last year with Kreft (FSU signee) and Peacock (Georgia Tech signee)," said coach Ed Auricchio, "(but) the team does have a lot of depth at the wing positions, so we will play up-tempo and produce points in transition and off of turnovers. This team is very, very exciting to watch."

Divier Perez (2007 6'11 C - Miami Florida Christian) is the biggest of the group. Steve Toyloy (2006 6'9 BF - unsigned senior) will join him on the inside. Look for more bigs to be added before the travel season gets too far along.

"Perez is a multi-skilled big guy," said Auricchio. "He can post up or face the basket and score with equal ability and success. Divier is also an active shot-blocker and rebounder. Toyloy has a solid body and is just nasty on the boards. He is very aggressive and does his best work around the hoop."

The perimeter is loaded with a lot of talent. Jon Roberson (2007 6'0 PG - Plano, TX) will be the triggerman for the offense. He is joined by Edward London (2007 6'3 WG - Ft. Lauderdale Dillard), Leonard Hankerson (2008 6'3 WF - Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas), Tremayne Russell (2006 6'1 PG/WG - Prep School TBD), Ariel Robinson (2007 6'4 WG/WF - Coral Springs Douglas), Michael Jackson (2007 6'5 WF - Miami South Dade) and Charles Hankerson, Jr. (2010 6'2 WG - HS TBD).

"There is something for every coach to like in this group," said Auricchio. "Roberson is a great playmaker, scorer and defender. He really blossomed this year at Plano. Lonon is a very physical guard with good size and strength that shoots it well. Hankerson needs to work on extending his range, but he is a great leaper, excels at driving and finishing, and really gets out and runs the floor.

"Russell can play either the point or the wing position. He is a very good athlete and scorer. Robinson is long, athletic, runs the floor well, and can really finish at the basket. Jackson has a nice mid-range game and does a good job of getting into the lane and finishing over bigger people. Hankerson, Jr. is obviously a great player if he is playing up at the 17-Under level. He is skilled, physically strong, has solid handles, and will blow people away with how good he is at such a young age."

The South Florida Heat's extremely challenging schedule will take it everywhere in the country to expose these players to every conceivable type of competition, as well as give them every opportunity to play in front of the college coaching fraternity and media.

3/30-4/02 Heat-Tropics Extravaganza - Miami, FL
4/07-4/09 Boo Williams - Hampton, VA
4/21-4/23 Kingwood Classic - Houston, TX
4/28-4/30 Spring Showcase- Las Vegas, NV
5/12-5/14 Jayhawk Invitational - Lawrence, KS
5/27-5/29 NIKE Memorial Day Classic - Nashville, TN

per dmn:

OU makes bid for Plano point guard

New Oklahoma basketball coach Jeff Capel hasn't wasted any time trying to land one of the area's top juniors, Plano point guard John Roberson. The Sooners made a scholarship offer to Roberson, which should put some heat on Illinois to make an offer on a player who led his team to a suprise Class 5A state championship in March.

Utah, SMU and TCU are also recruiting Roberson. None of the Florida schools appears to be in the picture for now, a surprise considering Roberson transferred to Plano from Florida last summer.

Roberson averaged 17.4 points, 7.2 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 2.4 steals and shot 49.3 percent from the floor for Plano this season.

my guess is Illinois will not offer until they hear from some other players first. They want Derrick Rose a stud out of Chicago badly and a few others. OU will be hard to beat out, but we should have a legit chance against Utah and tcwho.
