"Monsignor Bonner's Jeff Jones, Roman Catholic's Bradley Wanamaker, American Christian's Hamidu Rahman, and other participants at last week's Reebok ABCD Camp were watched by coaches from top-flight programs across the country.
Here are some of the easily recognizable coaches in the bleachers at Fairleigh Dickinson's Rothman Center: North Carolina's Roy Williams, Florida's Billy Donovan, Kansas' Bill Self, Memphis' John Calipari, Iowa's Steve Alford, and Southern Methodist's Matt Doherty."

For now, reminds one of the old Sesame Street gag...which one of these doesn't belong? UNC Florida KU Memphis Iowa and....
On the positive side of things, finally we're making strides in the area of college bball that makes it most unique: the story is frequently the coach, not the players, as the season progresses farther.

That's obvious: Roy Williams doesn't belong in any list of great coaches! He'd never have a title without the players that COACH DOHERTY RECRUITED!

I really hope Doh can keep us above .500 this year or he's going to lose a ton of momentum before he even has a chance to exploit it.

Not a chance. He gets a hall pass for this year, and even with the departure of Hopkins and his points, the team will be better because of Coach D. They'll play better defense, they'll have an organized structure on offense .... and the momentum Coach D is building around town and even nationally will continue. We need to be extremey supportive this year (go to the games!) and watch him recruit like a madman.

"Doherty at home in Denton: The early July recruiting period is packed with high-profile shoe company camps in Indianapolis, New Jersey and Georgia, but new SMU coach Matt Doherty said there was no place more important to him than the Great American Shootout.
After a quick trip to the Reebok ABCD camp in New Jersey, Doherty spent the last three days at the local event, which is packed with talent from the Southwest. On Sunday, all of Doherty's coaches who are allowed to recruit were on hand.
"It's probably the most important venue of the summer for us," Doherty said.
Briefly: Mike Kunstadt, who runs the event, said more than 300 college coaches attended the 18th annual shootout. They included Texas A&M's Billy Gillispie, UT-Arlington's Scott Cross, Oklahoma State assistant James Dickey and Texas Tech assistant Pat Knight. Bob Knight, usually a regular in Denton, did not attend. ... Lewisville beat Coppell, 60-49, to win the NCAA red division title. ... Woodrow Wilson's Anthony Randolph, a 6-10 forward ranked No. 7 nationally by Rivals.com, made a brief showing at the shootout Sunday after making the all-star game at the Adidas Superstar Camp at Suwanee, Ga. "RGV Pony: First top 25 ranking on the Hilltop: Matt Doherty or Phil Bennett?
Tim Cowlishaw: Heavy Mustang day. I'm going to go with Doherty. Nothing against Bennett but it's easier to get there in basketball with a couple of decent players. Don't think they are on campus yet, but a guy who did a good job at Notre Dame and was good enough just to get the Carolina job has real potential in my mind. Thanks to all. Back next week, I assume. Courage."

And good enough *just* to get national coach of the year. I really don't like Cowlishow. Never have.

I'm pretty sure he meant that as a compliment, but you go ahead and keep that sour look on your face.
