#5 Ranked in Texas - Roberson Between SMU and TechRoberson may decide between SMU, Tech
Plano point guard John Roberson went back to school last week with two colleges on his brain -- SMU and Texas Tech. While it appeared Oklahoma was the frontrunner for the No. 5 ranked player in Texas, Roberson has warmed up to new SMU coach Matt Doherty. He is the main reason why the Mustangs are suddenly in the picture. Roberson wants to make a decision early so he can concentrate on helping Plano defend its state title. The team will be build around the speedy Roberson and will look to run more, coach Tom Inman said. Gone is the inside presence of Joe Fulce and Eric Zastoupil. http://recruitingbuzz.beloblog.com/
...of the SMU era. C'mon, John! Time to make the Hilltop your home. Doh will make you a star. And your folks can watch every home game.
Pair this kid with Malone and I would have to be pretty excited about the recruiting class. Interested to see what happens with the Eddie kid out of Detroit. I would say our chances of him still coming are now slim with the news of his father taking the coaching job.
thats a credit to Doherty to be under consideration. Surprised this kid is not considering a florida school. We dont beat Tech out for many recruits though, even though we do seem to go head to head for some in both football and basketball. They almost always win out. Hope its different this time.
Hopefully, John will realize there is a lot of uncertainty with Texas Tech, what with Knight about to hand the reigns over to his son and all. Though, it appears Texas Tech is only begrudingly going along with it at this time.
How is the number 5 kid from a state that according to many "experts" produces more bball talent than any other only ranked 3 stars? Seems strange to me.
I know typically rivals only has 20-25 5 star recruits in the nation, then the 4 stars make up most of the remaining top 100. I do believe you sometimes see 3 stars in the top 100 some also. Remember most states are still going to have 1 or 2 studs even if they aren't a deep basketball state like Texas.
With that said, I would imagine it would be normal to see the #5 player in Texas in the top 100 nationaly ranked players. Does anyone have any national ranking for this kid, or was it posted and I just missed it?
Just checked. Ranked #139 in the country by Rivals although there are 10 players from TX ranked ahead of him in their National Top 150.
Height is not as important for a PG at the college level. Most PGs you see in the NCAA are below 6ft tall. For comparisons sake, Jai Lucas here in Houston is a top prospect in the country and is maybe 5'10 on a good day. I think I saw him in the top 50.
