From Kate H.'s blog:
A little hoops before football
Stopped by SMU’s open basketball practice this morning. Amid instructions, new coach Matt Doherty harped on doing everything as perfectly as possible – and if a player didn’t block out or needed to be told something twice, chances were they had to “touch the wall.†That consisted of running up the stairs behind the basket and touching the Moody Coliseum wall before turning around and coming back down.
Devon Pearson, a 6-6 senior forward, was sent to touch the wall before Doherty stopped him in mid-run and kicked him out of practice. Apparently Pearson mumbled something the coaches didn't like.
Doherty seems intent to change what he told the players was their “losing mentality.â€
...Moved on to Ford Stadium, where it will be interesting to see how the football team responds after a long, weird week.

Doherty was interviewed at halftime yesterday and commented that he was pleasantly surprised by Killen and Ofoegbu. Said he was glad he didn't pay too much attention to film on these guys from last year, because they are MUCH improved and he thinks they could be key contributors this year. Coach commented that we have no "go to" scorer and are not likely to see many 20 pt games from anyone, but thinks we should be able to spread it around pretty well.
My take on that...if we don't have 3-4 guys in double figures on a given night, we won't see many wins this year

I saw Doherty coming up the stairs at halftime. In front of him were Bamba and another bball player. Was that Pearson? If so, good that he still went to the football game and sat w/ coach even after his morning.

If they were running the steps it probably was Pearson.

The whole team was there - they were recognized on the field along with the women's team.
Coach D's two big recruits were there, too.
