Bobby Knight - Disciplinarian or Bully?

Postby MrMustang1965 » Tue Nov 14, 2006 10:46 am

It's all over ESPN this morning. Bobby Knight has struck another player! Knight struck Texas Tech forward Michael Prince's chin during a timeout when Prince reportedly wouldn't make eye contact with the coach.

I saw it, not a big deal to me. Society is way too sensitive these days. It's Knight, so he is under a microscope.

I'm pretty sure the kid will survive even w/o therapy.

I now hear there was a mosquito on the kid's cheek. Knight was simply keeping him from infection and possible injured list status.

I am sure the press is having a field day with the Prince - Knight puns.

His parents were at the game and his mom basically said it was no big deal.

I don't think this is suspension worthy or anything, and if his parents are fine with it, great. But this kind of behavior -- striking a 19 year old kid, regardless of how hard, to get his attention, is precisely why I would never let a child be coached by Bobby Knight. He is a bully who demands respect but gives none in return, and I don't think that is how you teach a kid basketball, discipline, or respect.

I'm sure he didn't hit Prince hard enough to pop a zit, but in this day and age, that's inexcusable. Neil Reed (or however you spell it) always will be remembered as "the guy Knight choked in practice." Will this guy be known as "the kid Knight smacked"? If so, that's a shame. No, he didn't draw blood, but there is no excuse for hitting a student - ever.

I got smacked by my dad and my PE teacher all the time. The Principal would always paddle kids, seemed to be pretty effective

Knight is what he is and every kid that signs with him knows his propensities.
