The SMU Mustangs host the Dayton Flyers (2-0) in the 2006-07 home opener at Moody Coliseum on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. This begins the 51st season at Moody Coliseum and the Mustangs are 37-13 in the previous 50 including a 10-game home-opener winning streak. Head coach Matt Doherty is 4-1 in his career in home-openers as he enters his first with SMU. This is the first of a season-high five straight home games. The Mustangs are 2-1 after three games at the Colonial Classic in Tallahassee, Florida. The Ponies won the opener 57-55 over Illinois State on a buzzer-beating tip-in by Devon Pearson, then topped McNeese State 70-54 before falling 59-52 to the host Florida State Seminoles. Ike Ofoegbu and Jon Killen were named to the all-tournament team.
IN HOME OPENERS: The Mustangs are 58-32 all-time in home openers. SMU is 37-13 in home openers at Moody Coliseum. The Mustangs have won ten consecutive home openers since a 63-59 loss to Creighton in the 1995-96 home opener. Head coach Matt Doherty in 4-1 in his career in home openers.

LAST GAME: TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Toney Douglas scored 14 points in the second half, including a pair of crucial free throws with 39 seconds left, to lead Florida State to a 59-52 victory over SMU in Tuesday's final in the Colonial Classic. Al Thornton scored 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds and Jerel Allen added 11 points for the Seminoles (3-0). SMU's Jon Killen scored a career-high 15 points, but also had eight turnovers. Donatas Rackauskas added 13 points and six rebounds off the bench. The Mustangs also got 12 points from Derrick Roberts. SMU (2-1) held a 26-25 halftime lead, and led late in the second half. Douglas hit three consecutive baskets to give Florida State a 45-41 lead with 5:29 left in the game. SMU closed to within two points with 44 seconds left on a three-pointer from Rackauskas before Douglas' free throws. Ike Ofoegbu and Killen were named to the All-Tournament Team. Ofoegbu averaged 14.0 points and 6.7 rebounds. Killen averaged 10.7 points, 5.4 assists, and 3.3 steals.

SMU RECORD FOR NATIONAL TV EXPOSURE: The SMU Men's Basketball team has a school record five nationally televised games during the 2006-07 regular season. The Mustangs play four games on CSTV and one game, at Memphis, on ESPN. The Mustangs' games on CSTV include TCU, both match-ups with Houston and the home game against Memphis. The Mustangs play the first three televised games on the road before playing the final two at home in Moody Coliseum.

COACHING EXPERIENCE: Head Coach Matt Doherty has assembled a coaching staff of Associate Head Coach Mike Garland, Assistant Coach Lance Irvin, Assistant Coach Steve Lutz, and Director of Operations Malcolm Farmer. The coaching staff enters the season with totals of 49 years of collegiate coaching with 16 conference crowns and 12 conference tournament championships. They have earned 26 postseason appearances, including 18 bids to the NCAA Tournament with 14 trips to the Sweet 16, nine Elite Eights, six Final Fours and two National Championships. The coaching success also includes 32 players that have gone on to the NBA.

BUZZER BEATER: Devon Pearson gave the Mustangs an opening-night victory against Illinois State as he tipped in a miss from Derrick Roberts as time expired for the 57-55 triumph. Pearson tipped it in from the right side of the basket after Roberts’ 12-foot jumper from the left baseline skipped across the rim.
R-T-C: Head Coach Matt Doherty uses the initials RTC to represent his vision for the Mustangs. They are Respect, Trust and Commitment. The red wristbands the players wear have RTC as well as several signs around the Mustangs’ locker room and offices.
