Our Schedule = Future success?

Postby stobor » Sun Nov 26, 2006 10:04 pm

I am new to the board so I am not sure if this topic has been discussed:

One thing I really like about this schedule this year is that it might not get us attention right away, but remember A&M two years ago built a powder puff schedule just to instill a winning attitude in College Station. With this schedule early on I think it will be a big confidence builder for this team. If we can win the games we are supposed to early, this team will feel like winners and could translate well if not this year, in the near future.

I have been following the ponies first games but have not seen many of the other C-USA games. How do people think at this early stage we stack up against the top programs in the conference? Houston/Memphis/Rice/UTEP?

I know Memphis is down a bit but still considered top in the conference.

Now that football is over it is nice to root for a team where you can trust the coach is competent. Here's to a good year!

We've talked about it, but you echo a sentiment I started right after our schedule was released.

We have the potential to go 12-2 or 11-3 with the non-conference schedule. The Dayton win is looking good since they just beat Louisville. In time, we'll appreciate that win.

TCU is awful. They can't hit free throws. We need to win at Daniel-Meyer.
OU is ordinary, and we can win up there. We'll see.

If we split our conference record at 8-8, you're looking at 19-20 wins. That's NIT stuff because they want the name Doherty.

The attitude is good, and things are looking good.

I wouldn't say Memphis isn't as good. They just brought the wood to Kentucky last week in Hawaii. Rice continues to be a mystery. Houston will be good enough to miss the NCAA tournament. UAB has the failed IU coach and has talent.

We are capable of having a very good season.

I'm sitting on this season, but I really think there is a lot of initiative in this year's team. At times they looked morbid last year, and they seem to be playing a much better game, under a much better system.

I am on board with you Big 10. More than three losses OOC would be a disappointment to me. It would be nice to go better than .500 in conference. There will be letdowns but what a difference in attitude.

I would love to see Doh with some of the past guys: Niemi and Forinash, Quinton, Jibran Kelley and Nigel Smith. I always felt like Jibran was a great player waiting to show it.

I always thought Fornash and Smith were stiffs. Kelley I think could have been better than he was. I really would have liked for Castro and Simpson to have played under a coach like Doherty.
