In his post game interview Doherty called it the worst game of the year for the Ponies. I have to agree with him because we looked very sloppy, 20+ turnovers. I hope no other teams saw this game, because we can not handle the half court press and trap.

One of the few games this year that I decided not to attend. I figured that the team might play down to its competition, which would be VERY frustrating. At $15/ticket and holding 4 tickets, I couldn't find anyone interested in this game to take the tickets. Hopefully the schedule will be more exciting next year.

Pretty sloppy overall, but what can you expect against a NAIA school. It will give Doherty a good reason to practice them hard this week and will be a good thing to keep them grounded. I look for a good effort on Sunday against Texas College.

On the plus side, Bamba looked pretty good, ripped down 12 boards and had 9 points and looked much better in the offensive flow. Another positvie was Epps , he looked pretty good and his shot looks pretty sweet, he just had a couple of jumpers not fall, even though they were true. He has a big body too and looks like he can bang around inside as well.

A win is a win though and I think we needed a game like this to give a reason to have some hard practices :P .

bagice, I agree with your assessment of the game. We were very sloppy, but that is to be expected given the competition. I continue to be impressed with Epps. He has the best looking shot I’ve seen come through SMU in a while. Hopefully he can work himself into playing shape.

I still have low expectations for this team this year based on our limited scoring options, but early on Coach Doherty has shown the ability to get these guys to play at a high level. The win over Dayton was impressive.

The trap worried me as well. Killen likes to bring the ball up the right side using the sideline to protect the ball. Good teams will let run him right into their half court trap. I wish Doherty would make him start bringing the ball up the middle against pressure. Teams are also starting to double team the handoff pass from the high post so we need to start getting better at having the post cut to basket after the handoff........

Bagice - I also agree with your assessment. I think the best thing to come out of this game was the play of Epps. It is good to find out that he is going to help us - one more player who can play.

We know this team can play well and shoot well at times, but last night it also showed that it can shoot poorly and play poorly also. When the score was 30-6 I think they lost interest.

In conference play - I hope the good team shows up and plays to their potential because we have the ability to play poorly as well. Let's hope that conference play brings out the best in us.

I predict that we will be 12-2 to begin conference play or at the worst we could be 11-3. A 20 win season is within our grasp even if we play
8-8 in conference, and I think that is possible.
