SMU MEN’S BASKETBALL IS NO. 17 IN DEC. 5 RPI

DALLAS, Texas – The SMU men’s basketball team is ranked No. 17 in the college basketball rating percentage index (RPI) according to Kenpom.com. The Mustangs strength of schedule is ranked 31st. The Mustangs are 2-1 against teams in the top-55 of the RPI. SMU has a 53-48 home win over RPI No. 48 Dayton (6-1), a 57-55 win over RPI No. 55 Illinois State, and a 59-52 road loss to RPI No. 13 Florida State.

The Mustangs are 6-1 this season, which is their best start since an 8-1 start to the 2000-01 season. SMU is also 4-0 at home, which is the best home start since claiming victory in the first 10 home games of 2000-01.

The RPI is one of the principal components the NCAA selection committee uses to determine the field for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championships. It has three primary components. Part I (25% of the formula): Team winning percentage. Part II (50%): Average opponents’ winning percentage. Part III (25%): Average opponents’ opponents’ winning percentage by taking all of the opponents’ Part II values and averaging them.

The Mustangs resume action when the Prairie View A&M Panthers visit Moody Coliseum on Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m.

Reposting from other thread because I like to hear myself post and it's appropriate here...

As of Tuesday, we are #17, as Dayton, Illinois St., and FSU have continued to look strong.

TCU is #210 and Oklahoma is #54.

It should be noted that really there have not been enough games played for these to be terribly valid, but it is still good for us to be up there.

Also notable:
UAB #16
SMU #17
Tulsa #40
Memphis #43
USM #105
Rice #114

This is a definite improvement over where the conference was last year.

This is good for the conference, but our RPI is not even worth looking at or discussing right now.
