SMU MEN’S BASKETBALL IS NO. 17 IN DEC. 5 RPI
DALLAS, Texas – The SMU men’s basketball team is ranked No. 17 in the college basketball rating percentage index (RPI) according to Kenpom.com. The Mustangs strength of schedule is ranked 31st. The Mustangs are 2-1 against teams in the top-55 of the RPI. SMU has a 53-48 home win over RPI No. 48 Dayton (6-1), a 57-55 win over RPI No. 55 Illinois State, and a 59-52 road loss to RPI No. 13 Florida State.
The Mustangs are 6-1 this season, which is their best start since an 8-1 start to the 2000-01 season. SMU is also 4-0 at home, which is the best home start since claiming victory in the first 10 home games of 2000-01.
The RPI is one of the principal components the NCAA selection committee uses to determine the field for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championships. It has three primary components. Part I (25% of the formula): Team winning percentage. Part II (50%): Average opponents’ winning percentage. Part III (25%): Average opponents’ opponents’ winning percentage by taking all of the opponents’ Part II values and averaging them.
The Mustangs resume action when the Prairie View A&M Panthers visit Moody Coliseum on Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m.
