You mean I have to WASTE my time watching that idiot and overall SMU hater HANSEN and help improve his ratings? I'll put it on mute until Doherty comes on?

LINE OF THE NIGHT
Dale Hansen asked Coach Doherty if SMU has to lighten its academic restrictions to get the players he wants:
"I don't know, Dale, YOU might not be able to get into school here, but we can get some players in here."
Hell with it: LINE OF THE YEAR!

Overall, great piece. Nothing earth-shattering, but Coach Doherty basically got a solid commercial for the basketball program and for the university. Hansen didn't ask a lot of deep questions (I know - stop the presses), but he asked about the RPI (Coach Doherty said it's up to 10th, and said SMU might not be the No. 10 in the country, but that it showed SMU basketball is on the rise).
Coach also said the Dallas-area HS coaches have been very receptive to him and to his staff, and said (by name) that he had talked with Gorey Johnson, sort of the godfather of Dallas HS coaches, in front of Johnson's team, and rattled off about a half a dozen respected high schools in the area that he has visited lately, and said the reception he's gotten has been great. He also slid in there the fact that "SMU has a national name" and said SMU wll go national and international for players, and compared SMU to Duke and Stanford.
Every time he opens his mouth, Coach Doherty shows more and more that he "gets it."

Yeah, great shot at Hansen about getting into SMU.
Doherty obviously has been well briefed on Hansen.

so if Doherty makes good on his promises, how long do we get to keep him?

I'm very pleased with what Doherty has done so far in recruiting and on the Court but the only reception among Dallas area Coaches that really matters is the reception on signing date announcing the recruitment of some top Dallas area players-that may take awhile. I saw a list of the Top 15 players for 2008 in Texas on Rivals yesterday and SMU wasn't listed by one recruit.

Texas players appear to be really taking Texas schools seriously these days. Of course, all the Big 12 South schools but one top player actually appears to be leaning to UTEP.

Tried it earlier, no dice. They have a shocking lack of video content. You'd think this day and age they would post the entire news cast online after it airs.

It's OK, Papa Dia, Mike Walker, Alex Malone, etc., will all be playing in Dallas soon enough.
