SMU Athletics Continues Transformation Toward Top-25 Program
Lowe, Shaver Head To The Hilltop
Dec. 8, 2006

DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU Athletic Department continued its transformation this week as it moves towards its goal of being a top-25 program with the additions of Kris Lowe and Craig Shaver. Lowe will return to the Hilltop as the Associate A.D. for Business & Finance, while Shaver arrives as the Associate A.D. for Athletics Development.

Lowe, a four-year basketball letterwinner and 2004 team captain, returns
to SMU after almost three years at Ernst & Young as an accountant. Lowe
worked on a variety of projects for the firm while also volunteering as
a peer counselor and representing Ernst & Young at the 2006 National
Association of Black Accountants Convention. Lowe continued his ties to
the Hilltop after graduation, serving as a recruiting liaison to SMU's
Cox School of Business.

"As a former accountant, I know the value of an outstanding business
manager," said Director of Athletics Steve Orsini. "Kris will bring that
to our department. As a former SMU student-athlete, he knows the
importance of a vibrant athletic department and he shares our vision of
returning SMU to national prominence."

Shaver comes to SMU after working at Baylor as the Athletic Department's Director of Development. At Baylor, Shaver was one of the top fundraisers on a number of capital campaigns and was also involved in annual giving and student-athlete scholarship funding. In addition to
the wealth of knowledge from his past experiences with Baylor, Shaver
has also worked in corporate development and high school athletics
administration. Shaver served as a Business Development Manager at
Electronic Data Systems, where he was responsible for managing corporate
partnerships and alliances, and was an Athletics Director and high
school coach for seven years prior to that. His responsibilities
included all administration duties within the athletics program,
fundraising, as well as managing coaches and athletics personnel.

Shaver will work in the Athletics Department through a partnership with
University Development. While the University has always been extremely
supportive of Athletics' efforts, the increased interaction should
provide a sum greater than its individual parts, a "1+1=3" solution
of
sorts. A main focus of these efforts will be raising the funds necessary
to make needed capital improvements to SMU's athletics facilities. To do
this and to support the annual operations of the department, Shaver and
SMU's athletics booster organization, the Mustang Club, will now fall
under the watch of Associate Vice President for Development and Alumni
Affairs Mark Petersen. Shaver will report to Petersen while overseeing
the Mustang Club and another new position within the department, the
Director of Development for Capital Projects.

"As a department, we must increase our resources," said Orsini.
"Maximization of athletics development is a vital element of all top-25
college athletics departments and adding an experienced fundraiser like
Craig will allow us to do that. In addition, I am very excited about the
partnership with University Development and know that, working together, we will reach our goal of becoming a top-25 program in all that we do."

Glad to see Lowe heading back to campus. He was a great player, and from what I've been told by those who know him, he's a great guy.
