Women's Basketball Game Today

Postby MrMustang1965 » Sat Dec 30, 2006 4:35 pm

Stopped by Moody this afternoon to buy 8 tickets for tonight's men's bball game. Man...Moody appeared to be PACKED for the women's game against Texas Tech! Last score I saw online was SMU 42, TT 37 in the 2nd.

You should have stuck around. It was a great game, and a HUGE win for our women's team.

The women's team was awesome today, especially on defense. Whatever Coach Rompola said at halftime worked, as they came out and shut down the girl who killed them in the first half. Sharee Shepherd was all ovedr the place (on both ends of the floor), and Delisha Wills was absolutely great. Congratulations to Coach Rompola and her staff -- their first win ever over Texas Tech since she was hired.

Great job, Mustangs!

Anyone who goes nuts about soft fouls (and eventual three-point plays) should go check out the women's team, specifically Wills. When she commits a foul, she EARNS it. Yesterday, someone was going up for a lay-up and Wills just planted her with two arms across the head. Personally, I'm surprised she didn't get a flagrant foul, or maybe 25-to-life. But she didn't try to cripple the shooter, and didn't shove her to the ground. She just made damn-sure that shot wasn't going up. Pretty impressive.

Taking the wife and boys to the SMU v. Memphis womens game this Friday night....really looking forward to it. We don't get a chance to see the red and blue very often, and the bball game threads are nuts...hope to make some noise to help the gals through...Long Live Denise Marrs.

FtoT: I don't know anything about the Memphis team, but you're going to enjoy watching this team. Yesterday was the first game I've seen this year, and the Ponies were REALLY impressive. Janielle Dodds is the headliner, I know, and she got doubled almost every time she touches the ball. Considering the fact that she was preseason all-CUSA, I would assume that every team that plays SMU would do the same thing. The player I'm most impressed with is Katy Cobb, our point guard. She looks intense from the minute she walks on the floor until the final whistle, and she plays low to the ground and fast -- always fast. She always has her head up, and seems to see the floor and direct traffic really well. She seems to shoot well, and is a terrific passer.

I've got to think beating a team like Texas Tech will be a huge boost for the team, in terms of confidence, emotion and momentum as the conference part of the season starts. Be sure to give us a full update.
