I agree. Attendence did suck tonight. Hopefully, there'll be a better turn out Saturday for Brown. And if not Brown, then Southern Miss. After the game, Coach asked several of the band alumni to pass on the word that he hopes there'll be a big turn out for Southern Miss. next Wednesday (1/10) as this should be the biggest game of the year thus far. So, please turn out for the game next Wednesday!

while that isn't what anybody wants let's think about this for a moment. Is poor attendance really that unusual for any school during the holiday break? From what I remember of the OU game, Oklahoma was having problems getting people to the game. Granted they were playing an opponent no on really cared about (oh yeah, so were we), the students weren't in town (oh yeah, so are ours), and OU isn't as good as they have been recently (huh, I see another similarity). If attendance doesn't pick up any come the return of the students and conference play, particularly with the prospect of playing on TV and against Houston and Memphis, then by all means [deleted] away.

One way to improve attendance and the halftime show at the same time - invite high school dance teams from the large suburban areas - like Southlake, Colleyville Heritage, Rockwall, Plano, Allen, etc..........As a dad of a former captain of one of these large dance teams, I can tell you that we would have at least another 100 - 200 people in the stands to watch the performance. All of these dance teams have their big competitions in early spring so they are looking for any chance they can get to practice their routines. Just a thought..............

Hey guys.

Dont worry about attendance for the next couple of years. Seriously. If this new coach can turn around this program after a couple of decades of mediocrity & actually start hitting the playoffs every year, the attendance problems will take care of themselves. We've got to build a completely new customer base all over again.

For now, it's up to the marketing guys for the quick fix (& the longterm) until the team starts winning consistently against solid opponents, not the cupcakes we've played so far this year (with the exception of OK of course).

When school is out, they should focus on kids. Family nights. Youth basketball night (wear your jersey get in free with a paid adult). Tie in with a kids show like Sponge Bob or Veggie Tales.

A better turn out this Saturday will be tough considering you have a Cowboys playoff game that kicks off at the same time as our game. I will be at Moody, though!

Had a dance team at the game last night. I didn't see a pack of parents/family/friends there. Hopefully the students will start to turn out Saturday as they filter back in for next week.

Christmas break is the time to schedule big games against OU, Tech, A&M, Baylor, Tennessee, and any other big non-conference schools. People will show up if we play big names. People don't show up because of the holidays and because of playing no-names. It's a bad combo. Coach can't help the schedule that he ended up with this year. Give it a couple of years and the schedule along with, hopefully, a winning team will help attendance.

Wait til school is in sesssion...should be around 3-4 thousand people. They need to publicize mens hoops...which is hard considering the Mavs are really good right now.

So didn't coach buddy up with Cuban? Run a special for free general admission to an SMU game with the stub from a Mavericks game (specific game). Get some butts in the seats and maybe they will return. We need the community to fill the stands, the school will never do it alone. Do not let the Mavericks take away from attendance, use them, to increase it.

While there appeared to be a lot of empty seats at the OU game, the announced attendance was over 6000. Putting a quality team on the floor and playing more big time opponents would help attendance even during break times. I would also hope that much more can be done from a marketing standpoint to get butts in the seats.

It was irritating to me last year to see the intramural field lights on and games going on opposite basketball games. Student seats empty but fields were filled with prospective basketball fans. Seems like it could be worked out where extracurricular activities including rush do not conflict would major athletic events. Students should be strongly encouraged to attend and support the athletic program, not given excuses for non-attendance.
