I attended the game at Cougar High and was optimisitic before tip off we had a chance since UofH's star player (Lanny Smith) was out for season. Boy was I wrong. We came out tight in the first half. Doherty was loose, but the players were real tense and not focused. Doherty was talking to the small SMU contingent of the fans before the game started. I thought that was cool. Bamba Fall was really working the baseline nicely in the second half.
As one fellow SMU fan said at the game, "These are not Doherty's players". That being said I am not too disappointed. I just wish we could have been in the game, but it was over pretty quickly.
One side note. I grew up in Houston and went to Hofienz Pavillion as a kid and then attended SMU as an undergrad. I always knew Moody was a classier and nicer facility, but I really saw the difference Saturday night. We don't know how good we have it at Moody. Hofienz is dark and has one level. They finally got rid of that rubberized floor they used to have. As an SMU student I only attended one game in regular season at Hofienz because the SWC broke up the next year. Moody is a wonderful facility.
