I seriously doubt that this will happen...but it goes to show that we need to step it up as fans. We have got to get attendance up!

Sending emails in appreciation wouldnt hurt either...

I know I am not the only one excited about the Future of Mustang B-ball

Tubby Smith just left Kentucky for Minnesota. Top candidiates will be Donovan, Gillispie, Barnes, Crean, and Calipari. He wouldn't be a candidate at any of those schools, but you never know what the trickle down effect could be.

I think there's about to be plenty of shifting in the coaching ranks. Hopefully Doh won't get coaght up in it.

Didn't Doh just come from Florida? Maybe he liked it there better than here. But going to a bottom of the barrel program in the BE like South Florida would seem to me to be a tough job to take and after one year? He probably doesn't want to get the whore reputation, jumping from bed to bed every year. But money talks and .... walks. If South Florida wants him they are getting BCS money and the BE television money, so they might be prepared to open the wallet pretty wide. There is nothing to say that Doh isn't testing the market to get Orsini to fatten the deal. I'd bet Hobbs is their target, though. Great run in the A-10 (a solid conference) which competes with the BE for recruits.

A coach or anyone else is only as loyal as his paycheck. If Doh is making 600k and xyz offers 2 million then what do you think he is going to do? I hope we can keep him around for at least a few years but someone is eventually going to have to pay him the really big bucks to keep him.

It's the Big East, folks. One of the top Bball conferences in the country. And it's Tampa, FL. Of course the job would be attractive coming from SMU/CUSA/Dallas. It's probably just a matter of time before Doherty gets an offer to bolt. The question is whether SMU will pony up to compete.

I would bet that Doherty took this job not really appreciating how little Dallas and even the SMU community cared about this bball program.

People do care! They just have been tired of a poor product for the past twenty years. Winning will cure a number of things (if we can do it in basketball why not football?). I really believe that this coach has an opportunity to make SMU basketball special. In doing so, CUSA will also thrive. Houston will not stand still and either will TCU if we begin beating them on a regular basis. There is plenty of room at top, not just Memphis.
If we can pay him, SMU could become a great medium term opportunity.

Tampa is a BIG step down from Dallas in media market. BE is obviously much better, but Doh can make a bigger jump in 2 yrs if he does anythign at all - and then his jump will be to something much better then So. Florida.

He just moved his whole family - he aint moving in one yr - and he has a nice class coming in. He gets any traction at all and he is head to head with UH and second only to Memphis in this conference - and then he can jump bigger then So Florida.

Many people feel S.Florida is a sleeping giant in hoops and football. huge school, good locale, facilities, and fertile recruiting ground
