I suppose a "strong commitment" from the university means the willingness to outpay any other university. Bet Arkansas is prepared for that bid war, though.

It is believed to be Calipari or the Creighton coach. The gurus here say Broyles would not have returned to Fayetville without a done deal.

espn.com reports that Calipari has said he isn't interested in Arkansas. Hope so. Would love to keep him in cusa.

Broyles once again is messing this up. He should have his replacement in place before shopping for coaches. But he just can't help controlling the situation a little longer.

He has control listed in his will so he can continue to do so from the grave.

am I the only one that thinks Broyles is the only one who doesn't realize that Arkansas is NOT UNC, Duke, Kansas or Kentucky in bball nor is it Georgia, LSU, Oklahoma or Notre Dame in football?

Arkansas has one of the top 10 all time BB programs. There is a decent drop after the first 5 or 6 but Arkansas historically ranks higher than any SEC team other than Kentucky. Florida, of course is in the process of establishing itself fairly well.

well but Arkansas' "tradition" started with Eddie Sutton. They were never a power before that as far as I can remember.

Arkansas is 28th or 29th in all-time wins, hardly the 8th best program in America

All time wins has nothing to do with the ranking. It is based on number of times to the tourney, sweet 16, elite 8, final 4 and NCs.

But SMU used to be really good in football

More like a 30 year tradition that Sutton started and Nolan Richardson took to the next level....

No way is Ark top ten in all-time basketball. They had that big year with Richardson and Williamson and that is about it. They compare with the essentailly one-hit-wonder UNLV teams under Tark. The Elvin Hayes era followed by the Hakeem years in Houston compare favorably to Ark. In no particualr order, consider the history of these programs over the years:

Duke
NC
UCLA
Kentucky
Indiana
Va
Wake
Georgetown
UNLV
Louisville
Houston
Kansas
Ohio State
Memphis
Florida

I'm sure I left out some deserving teams but above are listed 14 teams with clearly better bball history than Ark.

Ark is likely on a par with UT. No better, no worse. But neither is top ten.
