i like what Doh is doing. he is saying all the right things too...hopefully he is here for the log haul...

Students rally for Doherty's future with SMU

While the players play the game on the court, it is the coach that gets the players onto the court. And head coach Matt Doherty is already showing that he has the ability to get the players.

For someone who roomed with Michael Jordan in college, served as head basketball coach at Notre Dame and North Carolina and is now set to earn about two million dollars from his five-year contract with SMU, Matt Doherty is a pretty normal guy. The 2001 Associated Press National Coach of the Year took about 25 minutes to meet informally with students attending the rally organized by junior Michael Formanek to show support and awareness for Doherty's work during his first year at Moody.

Fans can definitely have an impact on the game. I am sickened by fans who sit on their hands when ridiculous calls go against SMU. Booing is OK in college sports when directed against the officials. Not only is it OK it is essential. Boo the heck out of the refs when they make bad or questionable calls. I have never booed a college player (for either side) and I never will but refs are fair game. It is the essence of home court advantage.

how many students were at the rally? Hopefully it was better attended than the 'save the Oilers' rally in Houston a few years back

They move the ball from goal to goal like no one's ever seen...they're in the air, they're on the ground, always in control...and when you say the Oilers...you're talking Super Bowl...

Where is Bum Phillips when you need him? We're knocking on the door.

I still have that record...don't have a record player, but have the record.

I loved the oilers - cause the cowboys always looked so good compared to them....now the Texans are filling the same role.

I've got the whole Luv Ya Blue album with, among other Oiler songs, this song in the traditional, polka, country, and disco versions.
