SMU finishes #38 in CSTV's final recruiting rankings for the class of 2007. For comparison sake here are a few of our competitors (regionally and CUSA): Memphis #11, Oklahoma #17, Texas Tech #21, Texas #31, and Texas A&M #35 are all in the top 40. UAB, UTEP, and USM all finish in "Near Misses" which included the first 18 teams not in the top 40.

SMU (7) Signees: Papa Dia 6-foot-10 C South Kent, CT School; Ryan Harp 6-foot-5 SG Abilene, TX Cooper; Alex Malone 6-foot-8 PF Mansfield, TX Timberview; Mike Walker 6-foot PG South Kent, CT School; Benny Rhodes 6-foot-5 SG Durham, NC Mount Zion; Tomasz Kwiatkowski 7-foot-1 C Lee, ME Academy; Robert Nyakundi 6-foot-8 WF Arlington, TX Bowie.

The Mustangs build for the future and add immediate inside help in its trio of big men, headed by the 7-footer Kwiatkowski to build around for the future. Wing shooter Harp and wings Nyakundi and Rhodes improve overall athleticism while point man Walker can be a defensive stopper. This deep group has the Mustangs off and running.

Was this a "total points" type ranking or something else?

It doesn't say how the rankings were determined. I would imagine our class of 7 helps to an extent but it does not seem to be exclusively heavily weighted towards the huge classes. For example Duke is ranked #6 with only 3 signees, Mich St. #18 with 3 signees, Villinova #28 with 3 signees etc. However, teams like UCLA and Kansas did not make the top 40, mainly i would assume bc they each had only 2 incoming players.

One spot ahead of SMU is Mississippi with 6 signees and one spot behind us is Seaton Hall with 6 signees also. Thats not bad company.
