UH Basketball

The Houston Cougars are looking like they will be far and away the second best basketball team in CUSA this season and a likely NCAA Tourney team. Of course, I thought they would be better than they were last season too.
This post is spurred by the news that Kelvin Lewis had his waiver to not sit out a season after transferring from Auburn approved.
From last season's team they graduated 2 seniors and lost a player to transfer: Jamar Thorpe (starter), Oliver Lafayette (2nd team CUSA), Robert Lee (18 min per game). However, it is what they are adding that scares me. Lanny Smith got a medical redshirt and is back and starting at the point. He was a CUSA pre season first teamer last year. Kelvin Lewis, son of UH assistant Kevin Lewis, was 3 star in HS who played last season at Auburn and is elgible this season. Marcus Cousin is the 6'11 C from Seaton Hall that sat out last season and eligible this year. Brokeith Payne out of Carter, one of the top recruits from Dallas area this past season, will be a Freshman at UH this year (I think he was a 3 star and one of the top 10 prospects in the state if I remeber correctly). They also have a couple other freshman that are supposed to be pretty good.
Basically, you take a team that finished 1 game out of second place in conference last season with three returning starters(6 players averaging 10+ min per game), including CUSA 1st teamer McKiver , and add a CUSA first teamer in Lanny, a 6'11 BCS transfer, a nice SG BCS transfer, and a blue chip Freshman and you should have a pretty good squad. Hopefully CUSA will have 2 teams in the Tourney this year as it was sort of embarrassing for the conference having only one in consideration last season.
