Doherty's Recruiting Class

This season will obviously be a rebuilding season for our basketball team (having seven freshmen and all). What should are expectations be for the upcoming season?

Do not believe we have a "fab 5". So I hope we can win most of our cup cake non-conference games and show improvement each game through the conference schedule. No high expectations but look forward to some good basketball.

Maybe. If this were the football board, I would say no expectations, but I actually do have expectations from the new wonder coach and kids. I expect a hard effort, especially on D, every game. I expect to be competitive on all of our non-conference games, and a good number of our conference games. I expect one or more freshman to step up and take a leadership role--if not, then our heralded recruiting class is not as advertised.

For the coach, I expect him to emphasize fundamentals for this young team, including defense, which you can play hard every night, even the nights you can't buy a basket. I expect him to work extra in practice on free throws--I cannot begin to tell you how much I have hated looking at the stats after a loss in the last ten years, only to realize if we'd gone 70% from the line instead of 48% we'd have won. I'm sure I will be disappointed in some of these since I am violating my cardinal football rule here, but since my expectations do not necessarily equate to a lot of wins this year, hopefully the effort will keep my disappointment at bay.

Coach, if you're reading this, I'm serious about the free throws. They are free, for godsake.

Careful on that expectation thing jt. Don't get hurt.

What about the great Mike Walker? I expect him to grow into running this offense.

I expect a .500 record and hard work. Next year, I expect real results.

I expect a team, while it may not win every game, which executes on basketball fundamentals. That's all I'm asking for.

I'd like to see a team that plays fundamentally sound, generates excitement, works hard, and pays attention to detail. While I'm not expecting many conference wins, I do want so see this team generate the "promise" for wins in the future. I think this will be a fun team to watch, although the record may not be spectacular.

That is an infinitely reasonable approach.

Well, consider what the expectations are--not much about winning in there.

That's pretty gutsy of you...considering your adversion to disappointment. I'm not saying you will be disappointed...only that you have left yourself open to it.

Wow, I came over to the basketball page to get away from the mutants on the football page. This is kind of quiet and peaceful. I think we might beat Paul Quinn. Just a guess. It don't want to get your hopes too far up there JT.
