If anyone is interested Rhonda gives her assessment of what this season will hold and I believe that the Women's program is going to turn the corrner and become a top 25 program this year. Check it out.

SMU Women's Basketball Rolls In Exhibition Opener
Wills leads Mustangs with 17

Oct. 31, 2007

DALLAS (SMU) - Sophomore forward Delisha Wills scored a team-high 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead the SMU women's basketball team to an 84-58 victory over the Houston Jaguars first exhibition game of the year.

Wills was one of four Mustangs in double figures Wednesday night. Senior Sharee Shepherd had 12 points, and led the team in rebounds with eight and assists, with six. Freshman guard Jillian Samuels and senior forward Katie Gross chipped in with 10 points apiece.

SMU's offense was sparked in part by the Mustangs' three-point shooting - the Ponies hit 56.3 percent (9-of-16) of their shots from beyond the arc. Gross hit three of six, Samuels hit two of four and Shepherd drained both of her attempts from long range.

The Mustangs return Moody Coliseum with another exhibition game at 5 p.m., Sunday, against the All-Stars. For a complete schedule and ticket information, log on to SMUMustangs.com.

Yes. She was establishing position down low alright, but was having trouble getting shots to fall. She was also not being too aggressive and drawing contact, but that's probably because it was an exhibition and we had the game in hand fairly early. No need to risk getting hurt.

A&M is this Friday night. I received 4 complementary tickets for this game to go with my 4 men's season tickets. This is going to be a busy weekend for SMU sports and it will be tough to make all the games. On Saturday the football game starts at 2:00 and the first men's basketball game is at 7:00. Then on Sunday the men's basketball team plays at 4:45 pm. I think the Basketball attendance will be adversely affected by the football game on Saturday. I know my usual friends who attend with me will only be up for the football game.

Plan to make them all. Should be a fun weekend. Can't wait to get a look at the new basketball guys and to see the women play.

Will have to miss it, but I'm interested to see how our sophs. play Wills, Severin and (?) and how our freshman Day and the guard from Dunbar. I think that guard is going to be fun. She is fast.

The freshmen you're missing are Samuels and Gilliam and Campbell. Samuels ran the point last night, and Gilliam looked pretty decent on the wing in last night's exhibition game. The team fell asleep after getting a huge lead on some roving band of hoop-shooting nomads, and nearly gave the game away, so I'm betting Coach Rompola is kicking some tail in practice this week. Hill is quick, but looked completely lost at times. Good thing this team has so much talent in the upper classes, so she and the other freshman (Haley Day) can learn before they get kicked into the deep end and told to swim.
