Darn and I thought all it took was a magic wand, some pixie dust, -a Coach who could really motivate the boys- an X and 0's magician or a tactical genuis. Listen to Coach-he knows what he is talking about. If you really checked you'd see an amazing correlation to an influx of unusually talented football and basketball players too. SMU could win 5 Basketball games this year and still have laid the groundwork for a strong program. I've seen a similar scenario play out about 4 times at SMU. Schools that turn programs around overnite already had the players on campus to do it. Perfect example is that 1-9 TCU team that had a Class on campus which resulted in a future NFL Hall of Famer and a number of talented players who played professional football. Similarly, SMU isn't a 1-9 team talent wise in CUSA- its a team that has lost 4 games on the last play of the game.

a) I guess he is going to stay for "restructuring"?
b) It scares me (as Stallion points out) that we won't have many scholarships, transfers or Juco's in the near future.
c) Every scenario here is at least 3 yrs or more
d) quick fixes definitely don't happen at SMU (like they can at our rivals any given year)

After watching them Sunday, I think there are a lot of things in the works with this group. But they aren't ready yet.
Just at least beat TCU -- that's all I ask.

I don't recall having a "first year spike" last year, but the talent level this year is much improved.
I don't care how you want to spin it, there simply isn't an excuse for blowing an 18 point lead to Southern and losing that game. I place 99% of the blame at the feet of Doherty for that loss. He substituted too much and the team needed someone to calm them down help them stay focused.

The blog is great because it lets him share his vision of SMU Basketball with the fans. Thanks to his blog he at least calms us down after the 2 losses, not letting us lose sight that he is aware things are not up to par, but that it is not unexpected. In other words, he is not satisfied with the current results, but that it is part of the plan.
