Couldn't go to the game today...

My boss made me attend a conference today, so I couldn't make the game. They usually play UTSA games at night. I've been looking forward to seeing the Ponies in person for a while. Oh well. Guess I'll have to make a trip to Dallas soon.
UTSA has been pretty good this year. They are way better than Paul Quinn. I wouldn't go so far as to predict a turnaround for the stangs, but I think UTSA would be middle of the pack in C-USA this year.

UTSA was #176 in the nation based upon forecasted RPI before today's game. They had an 86% chance of beating SMU. Good road win!

Uh, because they are UTSA maybe? They call themselves the Roadrunners. And they play in the Southland, i think. Seems the burden of making the argument is on you for making such an assertion that they are middle of the pack CUSA quality. Granted that isnt saying much to begin with.

Uh, I didn't make the assertion. Just curious why you would say they couldn't.

I'll give you an answer. I say it's absolute nonsense because in the time that SMU has been a member of C-USA, UTSA hasnt beaten a single C-USA team, and have less than a handful of wins against D1 teams outside of the Southland. This year they've beaten Hardin Simmons, Navy, UMKC, and Paul Quinn. Last year their non-conference wins came against Texas Weslyan, Henderson State, San Diego, and Texas A&M International. Beating NAIA teams doesnt mean you're going be competitive in C-USA. They're not even competitive in the Southland, last year they beat SFA and split with UTA, that's it. UTA won the rematch in a 30 point blow out.
The middle of the pack in C-USA would mean UTEP, UAB, and UCF. You really think UTSA is the equivalent of those teams? Show me one decent team they've beaten in the last 3 years. Show me one. They are a better team than they were last year, but they're still going to be at best middle of the Southland, not middle of C-USA.
"Way better than Paul Quinn" is somewhat subjective, we cant quantify "way better" but Paul Quinn held the lead over UTSA (the day before PQ played SMU) at 13 minutes left in the 2nd half. UTSA and took the lead back and pulled away from a tired PQ team (playing their 3rd road game in 4 days) midway through the second half. If that's "way better", then OK. To me its two evenly matched teams, and one got worn down. You can make of it what you want to, most people only see what they want to see.

UTSA needs to be a better than average Southland team to be an average C-USA team. According the RPI forecast, C-USA is the 13th best overall conference and the Southland is #21 (between the WAC and Ivy). As a comparison, UNT's Sun Belt conference is #17.
I believe UTSA would win at least three C-USA games. SMU is currently a lower-tier C-USA team and UTSA nearly beat the Ponies at home. We also have Rice, Marshall, ECU and Tulane. UTSA may win a road game (Rice?) and could pull out two at home.
Anyway, it was still a good win for the Ponies, especially considering the teams that both have beaten this year, and it was on the road.

After seeing the game yesterday, UTSA would be a bottomfeeder in CUSA this year. They have 1 or 2 good players and play an aggressive defense but couldn't really shoot very well nor did they create easy shots.

I love how one person will respond with a good comment about how UTSA is bottom of the barrel in CUSA, and then 10 other people feel the need to repeat this statement with all the same facts. Its almost like Congress.
