I was looking for some kind of good news after tonights debacle, and this was the best I could come up with. One of our women's basketball recruits is 4th in the nation in scoring, averaging 29 points per game.

Juniors Destini Hughes and Samantha Mahnesmith lead the way for the No. 1-ranked 3A team in Texas.

Mahnesmith, a 5-foot-8 guard, is ranked fourth in scoring in the nation with 29.0 points.

Hughes uses her 5-foot-10 frame to dish the ball to her teammates. Her 8.8 assists per game places her in sixth among the nations best The girl can score too. She's averaging 17.6 points.

This is the first season Hughes and Mahnesmith have played together. This year, Hughes transferred from Waxahachie High School to play ball for her father, Vance, who is the head coach for Kennedale. So far, the partnership is working out really well. The Wildcats are off to a 10-0 start. Their latest victory, 78-46, came against Midlothian Friday night.

Mahnesmith almost single-handedly beat the Lady Panthers. She scored 40 points and had eight steals. Hughes performed below her assist average, only netting three for the game, but added 14 points, six boards and three steals.

It's too early to tell if the duo can take the Lady Wildcats all the way to the state championship game, but Hughes does have experience winning. Last year, Hughes and her sister Niqky led Waxahachie to the 4A state title.

Kennedale's next game is against Sanger tomorrow, Dec. 19 at 6:30 p.m.

Not so good news on Lady Mustang recruit Alicia Mitcham. Some people have asked me why Alicia dissapeared from the box scores, and apparently it's because she has broken her hand. She's out for 2 months, possibly the whole season.

Lady Mustangs also have another recruit coming in, this one a transfer. I dont want to put her name on the board until I make certain it's ok with Rhonda, but from what I understand everything is settled and she will enroll for the spring semester.

Morgan Shell is averaging 20 points per game, and Marble Falls (14-1) is ranked 2nd in the State in class 4A.

Lady Mustangs play at Manhattan (6-3) wednesday night, at 6pm central time, and the game can be heard on 1630 AM.
