Texas State game

Texas St. is probably the 2nd best team we've played to date.
Dayton being the best & SF Austin is a very good team & will be a very good test today. I'm excited to see how the team responds.
I was very impressed with many things about the team, mainly Harp today. I was also impressed with the first half D.
The major concern is the same as last year, ball handling. I hope Dubois, Haynes & Otis can handle the ball. Walker & Harp are doing a good job but Kileen is very tenative. However, to Kileen's credit, it appears he is the only guy that wants the ball @ crunch time. Roberts is uncomfortable handling the ball in the open court still.
They must continue to learn how to break and attack a press.
There is no way the 10 second & 5 second violations should happen that frequently. However, give Texas State credit. They were very quick & aggressive. You could really see their advantage @ the guards.
We continue to have a big inside advantage against most teams. Bamba had two really nice jump hooks in the lane. Papa can't utilize his skills because he can't get the ball in the proper position & that's why he has to resort to fadaways & such. However, the team needs to learn to take advantage of their size advantage. Because of the ball handling weaknesses they cannot execute their offense. The guards are so far away & get pushed toward midcourt. By the time they get somewhat organized the shot clock is running down & the have to scramble.
Bamba can be effective inside, its just that we didn't get him the ball enough last year & the same thing is happening this year. Papa & Bamba's points are going to be put backs/offensive rebounds etc.
The key to this team is guard play. If they continue to improve they have a chance to be a competitive team in conference. On the flip side, if I was an opponent I would press 40 minutes. As some have mentioned, this is were Dez would have made the largest contribution this year.
No Dez, so I would like to see the ball in Walker & Harps hands most of the time. I'd also like to see Rhoades blended into the game.
If he has any ball handling skills he needs to be incorporated into the rotation.
Finally, I really like the way the team responded @ the end of the game.
They could have folded. Clutch FT shooting & just holding it together in a situation that is very difficult to withstand.
The future is bright IMO.
