Mustang Opening Near End of Game

I'm not urging here that we played a good game or that we might have won the game - I am just stating a fact.

El Paso has always been a tough place to play and has had homer refs in the 40 yrs we have been playing there.

They play rough basketball and the refs don't call many fouls.

With 2-3 minutes left in the game - we were down by 8 points -
we came up floor with the ball after a steal and missed a 3 pointer
which would have cut the lead to 5.

The point is - UTEP is an above average team and we were competitive on their home floor.

UTEP let up in the second half.......killen had a great game but he was still no match for the UTEP guards

Improvement

All I am saying is that we are improving. Sporadically to be sure but we are making some progress.

Malone is beginning to show even more promise and will be a star player in the years to come. Harp is playing good defense and beginning to hit a few shots (still not consistent). The other frosh are have very inconsistent years.

I too will be interested in seeing if we can get a JUCO stud for next year to help this team develop. It depends on whether Doh wants one;
and if the school will transfer most of the JUCO class credits - the credit
transfer has been the main the problem in the past.

Admittedly I did not see or listen to the game, but how can you say the reason we got back in the game was because "UTEP let up". I doubt that especially against a conference rival. Maybe, just maybe, SMU played with a little more intensity and focus in the second half but still fell short to a better team.

because most teams do relax when they get up 15 or so and sense they are playing a team that they step on the gas against at any time. Going on minor runs to keeps scores semi respectable, but not ever seriously challenging, is fools gold. We all thought that little 12 point loss to CU was a small moral victory of sorts, that is until they lost by 13 to Tulsa.
