SMU gets another basketball player from Senegal
Mouhammad Faye has transferred to SMU from Georgia Tech.
Faye, a 6-10 forward from Senegal, practiced with the Mustangs today. He will not be eligible to play in games until the conclusion of the 2008 fall semester.
Faye averaged 3.9 points as a freshman and 2.2 this season for Georgia Tech before taking a leave of absence from the program attributed to personal reasons in late December.
Faye played on the Senegal national team with SMU junior Bamba Fall this summer. SMU freshman Papa Dia is also from Senegal.

apparently he had an injury that affected his playing time as a Sophmore-then took a leave of absence in early December before deciding to transfer. Flew under the radar of the recruiting services being from Senegal but I think I saw he was the No. 3 player in Senegal in one class and had some pretty nice games in International play where he scored in the high teens and 20s in games I read about. He was pretty much a "mystery man" even to Georgia Tech insiders before getting to Georgia Tech-that was his nickname. Reputation of a huge wingspan-and if you look at Google image he's bigger and stronger then Bambi

"Good News"
Mouhammad Faye has joined our basketball team. He is a transfer from Georgia Tech and has enrolled at SMU and practiced today.
Mouhammad is a 6-9, 208-pound native of Dakar, Senegal, and played with Bamba on Senegal’s National Team at the FIBA African Games last summer. He averaged 12 points per game, scoring 22 in a win over South Africa and 20 versus Morocco. He also teamed with Papa at the SEED Academy in Senegal.
Mouhammad is a long, face-up forward who can pass, handle and shoot with good speed and quickness. He has toughness and a very good feel of the game. He will add a lot to our goal of being a top-25 program.
Due to NCAA transfer rules, he will have to sit out one academic year and can become eligible when grades are posted at the end of the Fall 2008 semester.
Hope to see you in Moody this week.

I saw that he was 22 years old-which is a tad unusual for a kid who will be a Junior next year

He should have 2 years left after this sit out season. He played at GT last year. Sat out this year. So he will have 2 years left.

2.5, has to sit out a year, so he'll play spring 2009 and the complete 2009-2010 season.

I think that adds up to 1.5 years of eligibility.

I thought the fact that he was sitting out a year still counted against eligibility (which it does, obviously) meaning: he has 2.5 years of elig. left and will be burning one of them on sitting...
Relax, we're BOTH right.
