SMU Women Win #14

Postby Tipoff96 » Sun Jan 20, 2008 4:01 pm

SMU women defeated Marshall today 72-50. They move to 4-1 in conference and 14-4 overall. I have to say I'm extremely impressed with this road trip sweep - especially given the fact Delisha Wills didn't make the trip. Always a good thing to win a road game but to win by 22 without one of your top players is really impressive. Nice job team and coaches - Congrats.

Congratulations, indeed.

Picture the Mavs without Josh Howard (at least). If Janielle Dodds is the team's Dirk, Wills is the team's version of Howard. Her absence was enormous, and the team really came up with a couple of big wins without her.

Great win ladies. This was a total team effort someone appeared to step up at various times throughout this road trip. Jillian Samuels kept us in the game the first half of the ECU game. She is doing a great job picking up her consistency in being an outside threat. I think I read she is currently leading the conference in 3 pointers (45) made which is great. Brittany Gilliam has really settled into being a legitimate spark off the bench and the pick and roll she ran with JD was unstoppable. Against Marshall Sharee was exceptional and really was bigtime player for us. Haley Day got good minutes and Katie Cobb was Katie Cobb. Great job ladies and keep this roll going.

Much love to you D Wills and your family. You were missed however your team mates came through.

Samuels has been awesome - four straight games with at least three 3s, including a 4-for-4 game and a 5-for-6 outing from behind the line.

Gilliam has come on a lot, and given an offensive boost with Wills out and defenses collapsing on Dodds.

It must be hell getting guarded by Katy Cobb. What a defensive pain in the [deleted] - glad she's on our side.

Oh yeah: that coach with 302 career wins is a nice asset for the team, too.

Time for some PAYBACK against those posers from Tulsa High!

I don't know if any of the Mustangs players are reading this, but if so, here's what I'd like to see:

Make this a STATEMENT game. Don't beat Tulsa — DESTROY Tulsa. They have no business being on the same floor with us, as we have shown by beating ECU and killing Marshall, both of which showed what a fraud Tulsa is. I get the impression we just had one of those crappy days up there where the shots didn't fall, the sun rose on the wrong side of the planet ... something. Every team has bad days, but dammit, we've got a very good team and they don't. SHOW IT. Get them down early and end it by halftime. Don't assume it will be easy. Go out there like you're playing Tennessee or UConn and your life depends on the outcome. Put this game out of reach and show them why we're 14-4, and counting.
"It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses."
...
"Hit it."

The ladies need to keep this up. We will need to keep conference losses to 2-3 if we want to keep at large NCAA hopes alive with the lack of quality teams left on the schedule. This team definitely has the talent though.
