-----Original Message----- From: smu diamond m Sent: Saturday, January 26, 2008 7:29 PM To: Orsini, Steve Subject: Scoreboard operator
I'm not sure where to send a complaint about the scoreboard operator, but I figured this would be an appropriate outlet nonetheless.
"SMU Welcome's special guest..." is bad grammar, which reflects badly on the University, and Jon Killen's name is consistently spelled wrong in the starting lineup on the board.
Please forward this to the appropriate person and have the issue fixed. Thanks! --smu diamond m
I got a response this morning: From: Hachtman, Rosemary on behalf of Orsini, Steve Sent: Mon 1/28/2008 10:00 AM To: smu diamond m Cc: Sutton, Brad Subject: RE: Scoreboard operator
Thank you for your input. We appreciate it and have forwarded your message to our Media Department. They will have the problem corrected immediately.
It bothered me enough during the game to send an email about it. I was surprised (and elated) to get a response.

How about "please stand and remove your hats and join in the playing of our National Anthem"? Sorry, but I am not going to bring my guitar to the game. I guess I could borrow a drum stick and squeeze into the Mustang Band percussion section.

I have always gotten very prompt response from the Athletic Department to my requests. I asked a question today and had a reply within minutes.

You are famous for your ability to understand that if you have an issue, it helps to ask someone who can help.

In keeping with the theme of misspelling, you also could have written:
"They're will bee know making cents!"

I'm being really critical of the University as of late, but there is no reason for them to have stupid elementary-level typographical and spelling errors. Sending a page full of punctuation errors out to recruits? Come on. Do you just hope the athletes won't notice? I bet they do. If the current folks can't spell and use commas or apostrophes correctly, then hire some people that finished elementary school, they're cheaper and can do the same things.
