OT: Shaq to Phoenix!

WTF? This makes no sense at all.

According to a Miami radio station, Shaquille O'Neal going to Phoenix for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks.

They don't repair what's wrong with the Heat, and he's going to slow down the Nash/Stoudemire Express.

Makes no sense for either side, if it's true.

Agreed. I don't like the trade for either team.

This trade makes perfect sense for the Heat!

Lose the aging, oft hurt, and ever less effective Shaq & his 40 million over the next two seasons.
Gain Marion. All-star caliber player, and an expiring contract (marion can opt out after this season, or he can play next year at 17 million and then opt out)

This is a do-over for Riley.

This makes no sense for the Suns unless Marion is that big of a pain in the [deleted] in the locker room that they just need better chemistry. But if that's the case...the Mavs have Dampier to trade! We'll take Marion to play the 3 and put J-Ho at the 2.

I saw during the Super Bowl that Shaq is a jockey now.

lol

This is a no-brainer for Miami IMO, and Phoenix is realizing they have a 2 year window to win with Nash aging, so they are going for it now. I'm just not sure how Shaq would help. I think they'd be worse on paper

How does this trade really help PHX? I really feel like they were desperate to make a move especially after LAL picked up Gasol for nothing. LAL is going to be absolutely unstoppable down low with Gasol and Bynum. If Gasol could only play defense..

Anyways, Shaq does not fit in at all with PHX run 'n' gun offense and I don't know how effective they will be playing in a half court offense with Shaq on the floor. I would like to see how far Marion's numbers drop not playing in the Suns' system.

This was a great move for Miami. They got rid of Shaq's salary and will be huge players in free agency this summer......free agents to be - A.I., Brand, Baron Davis, Artest, J. O'Neal and Jamison to name a few.

Not to mention they will have a lottery pick in this year's draft.

Maybe the Suns will just leave Shaq on defense and run up the court for a nice 4 on 5. Obviously Shaq won't be able to keep up with the Suns' pace.

Does shaq need to keep up with the Suns pace? How many 5's do you ever see running the fast break? How many 5 on 4 breaks are there in a basketball game?

The Suns are the team to beat in the West. If Shaq was available, why couldn't Cuban make a push for him. F*ing Avery 'likes his team' that will be outed in the first round again.

I think a lot of it has to do with the luxury tax. If I remember correctly, he'd not only be paying Shaq $20 mil and change for the next two years but he'd also be paying a luxury tax(dollar for dollar) on the money over the salary cap that Shaq would cost. It's funny, all the years that Cuban made the splashy deals when his team really didn't need them, now he's holding back at times when he could really use one.
