As I sat in Moody @ halftime Saturday night trying to get my sons to share some of their nachos & popcorn with me & trying to figure out what I just had watched during the 1st half, I told my wife that Doh has to being chewing some serious a**. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall. ( I also mentioned that the little girls playing @ halftime could have given our guys a good game the 1st half the way we played).
The good news is I got a few nachos & some popcorn, we won, the band was great, Moody is a great place to watch a game.
I really would like to see us continue the press against Marshall just like we did in the second half against Rice. I love that style.
Its fun to watch the kids scrambling all over the floor creating havoc. The kids come to the game with the mindset that they are going to be pressing & getting after it, avoiding a lackadaisical start. It also creates a intensity that we sometimes lack. The kids enjoy this style & it can help create some easy hoops off of turnovers.

starting the game with intensity is easier said then done, for any team in any sport. You are right. Starting the game with a press and getting after it will jump start the intensity.

I haven't seen too much press this year, but I like it and it seemed to work - the 3 pointers did too though!

I wasn't sure if we were going to be able to function as a press team, but it worked.

I don't know if I would call what I saw Saturday night a press as much as a loosely constructed half-court trap. The positive was that it seemed to make Rice speed up their offensive pace and in doing so, screwed up their shooting. So, that's a good thing.
Unfortunately, it was against the worst team in the conference and I didn't really see a totally committed effort from all of our guys to making it work. The one thing about a trap or a press is that everyone must be committed to doing their part or you get it busted which Rice did a lot. They just didn't make us pay which better teams will do.
I would love to see us become known as a tough pressing and trapping team but we need better athletes and more importantly, athletes committed to making the traps and presses effective to really pull it off.

What is the difference between a trap and a press?

Press = full-court pressure (could be man to man, zone, whatever)
Trap = Two people who "trap" the ball-handler in a corner where he cannot move and it is very difficult to pass out of.

The only issue if you press is manpower. You have to be two deep to press for any appreciable length of time especially at guard because it requires so much more energy. With Fall in the back, a press could be pretty effective since he can block anyone trying to layup .

Manpower is a concern but you can play this style with 9-10 man rotation.
I really like being the aggressor & taking it to a team trying to create as much havoc as possible.
Tongues will be dragging but they should sleep good.

Full court press is fun to watch, when you're doing the pressing.
I hate seeing it on us

True. When we ran it in high school, we did squad rotations every 3 or 4 minutes because we were so tired that we continually needed rest. And trust me, we were in good shape (we weren't a very...skilled team that year)
