Today is the final regular-season home game in the careers of this year's women's basketball senior class, which has had a remarkably productive run at SMU: Brittany Barker, Katy Cobb, Janielle Dodds, Katie Gross and Sharee Shepherd.
Note: Dodds needs 35 points and 20 rebounds to become SMU's all-time leader in both categories.
Bring people out to Moody. Tipoff is at 2 PM today against Houston.

Senior day is always somewhat bittersweet, you salute the seniors who have done so much, but also have to realize that you're losing them. This group of ladies have been so fun to watch, I hate thinking that this was their last game in Moody.
Janielle Dodds had 21 points and 9 boards. She needs 14 points and 11 rebounds to break both career records. Could conceivably reach both at UTEP. Nell also had 3 steals.
Delisha Wills had a strong game with 18 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocked shots and 2 steals.
Sharee Shepherd had 14 points, 5 boards, and 2 steals.
Jillian Samuels had 17 points, and shot 3/5 from 3-point range.
Katy Cobb had just 3 points, but lead the team with 5 assists, and her defense on Houston's Twiggy Mcintyre was a real key to our rally in the 2nd half.
Everyone played tough, this wasnt a blowout, it was a game we had to fight for, but everyone did their jobs and when this group is on, they are beautiful to watch. Hopefully we'll see their season extend far into the tournament.

Well said.
Nice touch by Coach Rompola to sub the three seniors - Dodds, Cobb and Shepherd - out toghether at the very end so they could enjoy an ovation together.

Since it's mentioned in Kate's game story, I will assume that it's OK to now say that Katie is recovering from a very serious illness. She has been at the last two home games and is doing very well.
For those of you not in Dallas, the team is writing "#4" on their arms in her honor.

Any mention of what it was, in the game story?

There were no specifics in the game story, but Kates father told me it was alright if I mentioned it here. Most of the hardcore fans already know the story, so it isnt really a secret, but I didnt want to say anything until the school made some official statement.
A few days after the Tulane game Kate suffered a viral infection that caused encephalitis, spinal meningitis, and cerebritis, concurrently. Those are inflammations of different segments of the nervous system. She is on the road to recovery now and is making very good progress, but it will be a long road. She wont be playing basketball any more this year. We were all thrilled that she was able to leave the hospital to come to the game. She is expected to recover fully, but it will take some time.

Thanks, XtC for putting this out there. I was working under the same "no official statement" idea. Nice of the family to allow the info to be posted here for those who care about the team, but may not be as close as some of us.
As he said, Katie is making remarkable progress and it was great to see her at the games this week. She is well enough to travel with the team to UTEP and Tulane this week as well as to the conference tournament in Orlando.
Please keep her and her family in your prayers as she still getting stronger every day.
