SMU vs. Rice

Today will be a test of a different type for the men's team. Rice still hasn't won a conference game and is down to their last shot. Their leading scorer broke his hand in practice Tuesday, so now they are down to nine players (three of whom are either walk-ons or football players). Even so, they fought hard Wednesday night against ECU before falling (win broke a 23 game conference road losing streak for ECU).

During his radio show, Willis Wilson said the Owls won't be looking to run due to their limited depth. Will Doherty have SMU running in an attempt to wear out Rice and get some easy baskets? Playing a slightly worse opponent on the road (on Senior Day) in front of a small crowd, how will SMU respond? This should tell us a lot about Doherty as a coach in terms of his opponent scouting, preparation and game strategy.

Also for those who plan on attending, the game will be played at the Merrell Center http://www.merrellcenter.org. I know it is the same time as the women's game, but I'll still be there. I plan on calling one of my classmates in Dallas for updates on the women's game.

SMU men haven't gone winless on the road in conference since '95-96.
I'm sure Doherty would like to avoid that feat.

That's not a good sign Stallion, when you are asking and answering your own questions.

Rice is finally renovating Autry Court, so this year both of their basketball teams played home games at alternate sites in the Houston area. http://riceowls.cstv.com/facilities/ric ... tions.html
