Great turnout in Orlando. Mustang Band and the cheerleaders were awesome. President Turner was there, as was Steve-O, Jeff Konya (basketball sport administrator), Koni Daws (senior woman administrator) and a handful of others. More than half the players had family in attendance. Daily Campus had two there, including one doing double duty in the Mustang Band. A bunch of non-family folks made the trip, too. Met several who came from Dallas without any personal connections.
SMU defense only allowed four UTEP players to score. In the whole game.
Sharee Shepherd has 98 steals this season - a new SMU record. She also moved into second place all-time in career steals.
24 wins this season - extends SMU record.
16 games over .500 for the first time in the 33-year history of the program.

Let's hope Doherty can follow this lead.

Thanks, Pride.
Kind of surprised at attendance of less than 800 for conference championship. Is that correct?

by far under 800. but i expected that with a championship between two teams from texas in florida during UCF's spring break. there were a bunch of people from the orlando area who came to see the game wearing ucf gear.
i posted this in the game thread, but what was the deal with UTEP not coming back out for the trophy presentations? the girl from marshal was there to get her all tournament team award, but when they announced UTEP's players for the team and the runner up award, they had already retreated to the locker room. it seemed like poor sportsmanship, can anyone shed some light on this? did they just not know to come back out? because they said before the game to stick around for the champion and runner up award presentations

They were giving us the death stare while we loaded up the bus (which was blocking theres in). Me? I was dancing around and yelling. Nothing more sweet than victory
And, still an amazing win by the ladies. The thought that the game was fixed is the dumbest notion I have ever heard. At one point we had 6 more team fouls than UTEP in the second half. They just got shutdown. They'll be a better team for realizing it.

Or maybe they were all upset because it dawned on them that they would have to return to El Crapo. The armpit of Texas.

My personal favorite was Jareica Hughes. Admittedly, she is an outrageously talented player, exceedingly high basketball IQ and a fierce competitor. When it got toward the end of the game and UTEP had to start cranking 3s and fouling SMU, she committed a foul and started talking, trying to bait Sharee Shepherd into a verbal confrontation, or a technical foul or something (didn't work). Since the game was not yet officially out of reach, UTEP head coach Keitha Adams grabbed Hughes and pulled her away, presumably in an effort to make sure SHE didn't pick up a technical. Hughes yanked her arm away while her coach was talking to her, said something without looking up and walked away from her coach.
Way to show up your head coach on national TV.
I had a coach who preached that there's a right way to win and a right way to lose, and demanded that we did both with class.
I'm guessing Hughes has never heard that rule. Or maybe she just didn't listen, and walked away.

El Paso is a great town and we should be grateful we have UTEP to compete with rather than La Tech

supposedly they tried to hire a high school girls team to come out for the awards presentation but weren't able to find any takers.

They knew, they just weren't interested in being awarded for being runners-up.

Also, if you saw warmups, she didn't wear the team warmups. She just came out in a white t-shirt and did her own thing. I wonder if the coach has tried to get her to be part of the team or if she doesn't care as long as she plays well.
