What an unfortunate situation both for the kid and SMU. On one hand I understand the kid's argument. I'm sure he felt we weren't going after a big time PG prospect, but if you're SMU you have to do what's best for the program. Personally, I think we should have granted him his release. Yes, he made a commitment to us that he would be here, but if the kid is going to be unhappy then he doesn't need to be here. I don't see how this will benefit anyone really.

He's old enough to vote, he's old enough to honor the contract that the National Letter-of-Intent is. Life's not fair. Be a competitor, and come in and play so hard and so well that Coach Doherty can't keep you off the floor.
At least he should offer to reimburse the school for every trip out to California to watch and recruit him if he wants SMU to even think about letting him out. I know it's ridiculous, but we made an investment in this kid.
I still think it's Dad, not the kid, who's being a pain on this.

appeal denied. there should be a blurb in the dmn today, but if not, he was denied a release from the LOI.

The paper said he's going to consider "one final appeal"...how many cracks do you get at this thing?

his son would not enroll at SMU, even though he would lose a year of eligibility and be forced to sit out a full season.
Wow, Daddy Dubois won't even let his boy get a good education for a year and transfer to another program.
