I don't know how many of you are familiar with Atlanta's Two Live Stews (brothers Doug and Ryan Stewart) who frequently appear as guests on ESPN 2's First Take, but Ryan Stewart talked with a confident source that the Hawks were looking for an athletic wing to replace Josh Childress. Some of the names that are floating around are J.R. Smith, Cutino Mobley and SMU's very own Quinton Ross. As a diehard Hawks and 'stangs fan I would love to see the Hawks sign Q-Ross. Thoughts?

Hawks were very impressive against Boston. Should go far this year. Would love to see Q there.

I just want to see Q get paid....he deserves it. Hopefully he will get some team's mid-level exception.

I love Q but you officially are out of the running for any NBA GM positions starting now. Q could potentially get a similar 3 year $9 mill deal that Azubuike did from the Clippers on the high-end. No way anyone gives him the full mid-level.
I do think he is a heckuva a player for a contending team and hope that he gets a good deal as well as lands with a contender.

Yup.
Three years, $20 million after taxes.

he would have been getting a $39 Million+ deal over the same time from the hawks...i think this is going to be a trend until the NBA does away with the Cap...anyone know what the tax's are like in Greece? cuz im pretty sure he wont owe a dime to the US Gov't

I think he does. This is from the IRS... 13.7 Aliens and U.S. Citizens Living Abroad: U.S. Citizens Overseas
I am a U.S. citizen working abroad. Are my foreign earnings taxable?
A U.S. citizen or resident alien is generally subject to U.S. tax on total worldwide income. However, if you are a United States citizen or a resident alien who lives and works abroad, you may qualify to exclude all or part of your foreign earned income. For specific information, refer to Tax Topic 853, Foreign Earned Income Exclusion - General.
Limit on Excludable Amount You may be able to exclude up to $85,700 of your foreign earned income in 2007.

I don't think he does from what I have read. I am no tax expert though and therefore cannot tell you why.
Also in the deal, the Greek club team is paying all his taxes for him in Greece in addition to his salary and a house. He also has a player option to leave the team after each of the three years of the deal. Pretty shrwed move by an NBA player if you ask me.

Brent Barry's brother was on a local Atlanta radio station, and from what I remember is that once Jchill comes back to the States he will have to pay taxes. I think it is over 300k you have to pay taxes.

Childress was a restricted free agent. His offer was 5 years at 33 million from ATL. His offer in Greece is 3 years, 31 million, but it has a player opt out clause after year two. I think the reason he defected was so that he didn't have to play a 5 year contract before becoming an 'unrestricted' free agent. After the 3 year rookie contract and the 5 year restricted contract he would have played 8 years before becoming unrestricted and getting himself on the open market. This way, he'll shorten that time to 5 years. He is a Stanford guy. He knows what he is doing.

To hell with Childress.
Any new reports on The Q? I heard on the radio this weekend that the Charlotte Bobcats and New Orleans Hornets are thinking about making him an offer, although they also suggested that after signing James Posey, the Hornets might not have any expendable cash left.
