John Wall to Baylor (sounds very likely) -- over Kentucky, Kansas, Memphis...

Hmmm....what is going on down there? I still don't get it - Waco.....from the huge scandal to this...

John Wall: Still wide open

John Wall of Raleigh Word of God, the top-ranked basketball prospect in the country, said Monday morning that he is still wide open in his recruitment.

Wall, a 6-foot-3 senior point guard, said Baylor, Memphis, Kansas, Kentucky, Oregon, N.C. State and Oklahoma State were the schools that were recruiting him the hardest, but that he was willing to talk to other schools if they were interested in him.

"I'm wide open," he said.

There had been speculation that Wall would commit to Baylor after it hired Dwon Clifton, his club team coach, as its new director of player development.

"Dwon and I never had that type of agreement," Wall said. "I was interested in Baylor before he went there.

"He told me that it would be great if I decide to go to Baylor, but that I needed to make the best decision I could for myself and that he was proud of me wherever I go."

Wall has not scheduled any of his official visits, but plans to start working on a schedule after playing in New York.

That's why they hired the kid's dad.
If the kid doesn't sign with Baylor High, I'd bet Pop's job doesn't last long.

As I drive through Waco its easy for me to see why someone would want to go to Baylor. Waco is such a beautiful place with so much to offer  .
Plus, isn't there something like a 4 or 5 to 1 female to male ratio  ?

Look at where the kid goes to high school. Baylor in fact might be more liberal. Small Baptist school with a murderer on the loose once in awhile.

Baylor hired an assistant coach from John Wall's aau team -- not the dad.

The murder comment is off base. Not funny at all.

Dad, mom, assistant coach - whatever. That guy doesn't get so much as a cursory interview if he's not coaching a nationally elite player.
I really shouldn't drink and type.

bottom line is we are out recruited in basketball and football by every division 1 private school in the state, including Rice. The results say it all

We are outrecruited in basketball by Rice? By TCU? The results say it all? That must be why we lost to them last year...that must be why we haven't beaten TCU in the past few years at all...

LA, you make a good point re: the bb recruiting.
Yes, we may have beaten TCU & Rice last year but I am very impressed with what Ben Braun is doing with recruiting @ Rice & Jim Christian @ TCU was a excellent hire. Unlike us, they have an outstanding freshman recruit from Duncanville in Kevin Butler, a JC transfer from Weatherford that I raved about last year in Edvinas Ruzgas & I'm predicting a quick turnaround in their program.
Also, I'll add SFA & UNT to the mix. Stephen F Austin beat us last year & they seem to be in on many more local & statewide recruits than we are.

I am eagerly awaiting some BB recruiting news for us. While our other competitiors seem to be landing quality commitments we still have nothing to show for all of Robo's national recruiting. As I read his blog & hear him talk about his national travels, the hectic travel schedules, missing the family etc., I can't help but think again what a hotbed for talent there is in this city/state & how much easier his life would be.
I hope the Russell kid comes to SMU. Having a highly rated local player would be good for everyone concerned.

He's recruiting in Dallas, too. More than one poster has talked about seeing him at local high school and AAU games.

I'm one of the ones that has said I have seen him recruiting locally a couple of times. I think what I'm saying is recruiting successfully.
Its time for Robo to land a good one locally. Hopefully its Russell.

It is nice we finally have an ad who has stated winning is important. Watching all the big-time local talent sign with other schools is frusterating. Hopefully, the Crum Center will help Doh get some local kids. If he doesn't then something is seriously wrong.

I dont think there is any question that TCU's incoming class, their first under Jim Christian, is clearly superior to ours. Ronnie Moss, Kevin Butler, Kavon Rose and the 3 JC kids will all make an immediate impact.

Rice just got a commitment from Tamir Jackson.

Rice was the worst team in the country last year because they were riddled with injuries, and had no home court while Autry was being renovated. Go back a little further than just last year, or the year before, and look at the series between SMU and TCU, and SMU and Rice.
Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.

I'll buy that TCU's 08 class, the first under Christian, may be better based on size & JC contributions, but few have any of their incoming frosh as better then McCoy or even Otis. If you add in Faye, an ACC level transfer, who is basically the same age as their JCs, its a push at worst

Tamir Jackson is a great pick-up for Rice. I'm just glad he's not at UAB. CUSA isn't getting many bids and we can't afford to lose ground to anyone other then Memphis. Jackson & Cousins together would have been nuts
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones
