I missed this

Postby mrydel » Fri Aug 22, 2008 8:51 am

I was perusing around Rivals and noticed a basketball LOI had been signed by Cort Foge, 6'10" from Oklahoma City. I do not recall any conversations on this guy. Did I just miss it? What does anyone know about him? (Other than 6'10" from Oklahoma City)

****EDIT**** I guess I found my own answer in one of Coach Doherty's blogs. He was a walk on but apparently we have put him on scholarship now.

You missed it. Recruited walk-on. A late grower, I think he was something like 6'4 until late in his soph year when he had a huge growth spurt. I will try to find the old thread with some info on him.

I'm guessing he got DuBois' scholarship. Wondering if Icon, XTC or Ponydoh can speak of him and if he can contribute or if he is a project.

Thanks in advance.

First Doh post mentioning Cort...

July 2
"New Crew"
All of our players are here with two exceptions: Cort Hoge and Ryan Maag. Both of these young men are walk-ons, but I like to just consider them "players". Cort is a 6-10 post player from Oklahoma that can shoot and handle the ball. He has a big frame and will add depth at the post position. Cort was here for Summer One. Ryan is a point guard from Houston that is strong and can really shoot the ball. Ryan was here for orientation this week. I am excited that they decided to join our program because they will valuable assets in the development of our team.

Rounding out our new players:

Derek Williams – he is a Junior College point guard that will add experience to our young team. Derek attended Western Texas JC, but is originally from NYC. His ball handling, quickness and leadership skills are terrific.
Mouhammad Faye – this 6-8 forward who transferred from Georgia Tech was with us since Christmas, so we know how talented he is. Mo can score, pass and defend. He brings toughness and energy that is critical to good teams. We plan on him being eligible after the fall semester.
Paul McCoy – freshman point guard from Portland, OR. His athleticism and toughness are keys. He is a proven winner – State Champs!
Frank Otis – 6-7 freshman forward from Oakland, CA. "Mook's" strength and skill level are very good. Another proven winner – State Champs with an undefeated record. He brings a toughness to our program that is much welcome.
Justin Haynes – 6-5 wing from Palmdale, CA. Justin worked his tail off to make this happen. He was hurt much of the year with an ankle injury. Justin is a skilled wing that has a great feel of the game. He is long and athletic. I like his versatility.
I am very excited about this "New Crew". I feel we backed up last year's recruiting class with another good one. We will see the benefits of this very soon!!

I would suggest buying your tickets now, because Moody will be rocking in the near future!!!

Pony Up!

Where did you find the info on him now being on scholarship? I must have missed it.

Its possible that he was recruited as a walk-on and since we entered into the season with a scholarship to burn, allowed him to "borrow it" so to speak with the up-front knowledge that the following season he may be back at walk-on status.

I have not seen him play other than a couple of youtube game highlights and training clips. He used to play on the wing before he hit a huge growth spurt. Apparently can shoot pretty well and seems from his videos to be fairly coordinated. When you have the chance to get a 6'10 walk-on who mis willing to work, you take it. Now is he a scholarship worthy player, I have no idea. I'll defer to someone who has maybe seen him play in person.

I was just looking at the SMU recruits for 2008 on Rivals. Noticed his name and it shows him as signing a LOI in the same class as McCoy et al.

Based only on what I see in the video this young man would benefit greatly from playing @ Collin County, Grayson County or one of the other local JC's in the area.
